Sam, That piston will be -.005 clearance in a standard application. You measure at the centerline of the pin for proper piston diamter.

Measure across the skirt at the bottom. Pistons skirts are typically tapered and elliptical.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

That is incorrect ( for these pistons). TRW skirt design is different than many " modern" skirts. Every manufacter specs a different measurement location. TRW happnes to be from the centerline of the pin, down, just below the pin hole. Not the skirt.
If they are a coated TRW, then you go with a given bore dimension,provided by them, not an actual measurement.
