Ok, who makes the best/lightest 16 volt battery out there? No way can I spring for a lithium battery, but looking to go to one 16v battery and since I need the charger and battery I want to get this right the first time. Lets see.....theres the turbo start, XS power, Rock....etc. the list goes on. Anyone have expertise here? looks like everything I have is compatable with 16v so I won't need one with a 12v output.

So far I like my XS S1600. I've been running it almost a year. I have a step down for my fan and water pump, they both are compatable with the 16v but sometimes I charge the battery while running both the fan and pump and they smell like they dont like that.

There are some affordable lithiums out there, Brian. I am a dealer for the XS lithium series. But if I were to get a regular AGM I would get the XS lightweight

That's a good point Laverne. I do the same thing while on the charger. Are you running an alt with the S1600?

Ben, what are the affordable lithiums? I am only aware of the XS for racing use.

This is off of JBRC's site. The only kicker with the lithium is you HAVE to use some sort of auxiliary battery pack when charging in the pits. you basically shut the car off and charge the lithium while an external battery runs your fan, wp, etc.
We've got one in a 4 stage nitrous BBC outlaw car, and it charges in 12 minutes once we get back. Just have a 12v optima yellow top with a charger piggybacked on it and cool the car down quick

It's really easy to do...

I run the lightweight Powermaster also. Have had them in 3 cars, dragster, firebird and dart with no problems at all.

So, those running the lightweight XS....you are running only 1 battery right? Even with no alt?

I AM SWITCHING TO 16V
but elected to buy a 12-16 volt powermaster alternator. I can use it on any 12v or 16v system
as it is adjustable. This way I have no real need for the 16v charger.
as for between rounds cooling etc. a seperate line from the fan and pump plugs into a pair of 6v golf cart batteries in the trailer connected in series now making 12v . They have enough amps to use them all day and not need a single recharging. They recharge when the truck is running.

Alot of great ideas there Fred. I really want to run an alternator....not sure I've seen the "adjustable" version before. Are you going to use a step down for the fan/water pump and turn the alt up to 16V? This is the only way to keep the battery charged without a charger right? I like the idea of being able to hook up to another power source at the trailer for cooling.

We use one 16 volt on a few of the cars.Don't let them lose charge or set for long periods at at low voltage, they tend to go bad and not recharge.Get the correct charger and or tender.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I have a clear direction for what I need to do.
