I have a 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T in which the battery leaked acid all over the inner fender well and top of the frame rail. This is the way I found the car after it had been sitting since 1976. There is no really serious damage yet but I want to prevent it from getting any worse !

My question is what is the best way to clean up, neutralize the battery acid, and primer or paint over it with ?

Clean and scrub the affected areas with baking soda and water.

CRC makes a spray can neutralizer that turns red if there's acid present so you can tell when you've gotten all the acid treated. Some times it's surprising how far the acid creeps.

Check the bottom of the frane rail for softness
going all the way back the bottom of the drivers foot well.
