My son would love to get into a Jr. Dragster. He will be 8 next month and I know nothing about them.
Where do I even start to get an education ton these things?
How young is too young?
What should I look for in a car?
How do I make sure he is serious before I drop the coin for a car?
How much money are we talking for an entry level car?
-Dave
PLEASE Pray for our brothers and sisters in harms way. If you are the owner of a GTS us at the GTS Registry www.gtsregistry.com

You should look for a used 12.90 car with a very adjustable cockpit. You should also try to get a car that is nice enough to sell later in case you want to upgrade or he loses interest. buying a car that is proven to run good is worth extra money. We have two cars one has always run great the other I've had to do a lot of tuning to make it competitive. having a competitive car and success will make his interest grow. I've had just as much fun with the jr dragsters as I do racing my own car. If your in to bracket racing it's a lot of fun to help your kid and watch the enjoy the same sport that you are in to.

Good place to start http://www.jrdragsterplus.com/phpBB2/index.php
Some tracks/individuals have a rental program so you can see if your son likes it before you spend the money on a car. My suggestion is to buy a chrome moly chassis. Mild steel is only certified to go 8.90's and resale on a CM chassis is better. Plus, they are lighter. 10 lbs is about 0.1 seconds on these cars and HP is not cheap (and you thought a Mega block was expensive). 12.90 cars the engine is basically stock with a cam and mikuni alky carb. 7.90-8.90 ET's and the only thing stock is the oil seal...
I would think you could pick up a decent chassis and a couple of motors for $2500-$3500.

Your in the right area for JR Dragsters.... here's one of the best builders around and Marion isn't far from you. http://racerpops.com/home.html
My daughter had a Racer Pops Car back in 2004.....great car....
Now my boy is into it and we found this Motivational Tubing car on Ebay for 3500.00(roller) with clutch and tons of spares. Here's my boys car....when we got the car it was all done as you see it minus motor...chromed...polished...and powder coated. It also came with 3 totes full of parts....2 new front tires...another set of wheels and tires with beadlocks....and a Perfomaire ET predictor/weather station.....deals are out there. Here's a decent deal http://www.racingjunk.com/category/22/Junior_Dragster/post/2101891/spitzer.html
