My son would love to get into a Jr. Dragster. He will be 8 next month and I know nothing about them.

Where do I even start to get an education ton these things?

How young is too young?

What should I look for in a car?

How do I make sure he is serious before I drop the coin for a car?

How much money are we talking for an entry level car?

-Dave

Your best bet is to go to your local track and ask allot of questions to the other fathers and try and pick one ot two to listen too that you trust.....there are allot of different thoughts on what to buy....the 8 & 9 year old class is the toughest so dont get discouraged by how things go in there...when hes 10 and you can go 8.90 its gets allot easier.....Racingjunk has allot of Jrs for sale....you can always pm me if you find something and need a 2nd opinion on it....been there done that!! Have had 5 children go threw Jr's myself with 3 still running them.....track champs in every class there is....Jesse

You should look for a used 12.90 car with a very adjustable cockpit. You should also try to get a car that is nice enough to sell later in case you want to upgrade or he loses interest. buying a car that is proven to run good is worth extra money. We have two cars one has always run great the other I've had to do a lot of tuning to make it competitive. having a competitive car and success will make his interest grow. I've had just as much fun with the jr dragsters as I do racing my own car. If your in to bracket racing it's a lot of fun to help your kid and watch the enjoy the same sport that you are in to.

Good place to start

Some tracks/individuals have a rental program so you can see if your son likes it before you spend the money on a car. My suggestion is to buy a chrome moly chassis. Mild steel is only certified to go 8.90's and resale on a CM chassis is better. Plus, they are lighter. 10 lbs is about 0.1 seconds on these cars and HP is not cheap (and you thought a Mega block was expensive). 12.90 cars the engine is basically stock with a cam and mikuni alky carb. 7.90-8.90 ET's and the only thing stock is the oil seal...

I would think you could pick up a decent chassis and a couple of motors for $2500-$3500.

definetly get an older car for 12.90. run it for a year or two then upgrade if serious. N20mstr on here has a great starter for sale that he totally re-did and painting. great price and believe he will travel or meet half way within reason. link----

Tried the link and it didn't work. Tried to register to see if that is why the link didn't work and it gives me a message that registration has been closed.

VERY ADJUSTABLE pedals on that car....

Will take 1500.00 for it, and you dont need much more to race

Your in the right area for JR Dragsters.... here's one of the best builders around and Marion isn't far from you. http://racerpops.com/home.html

My daughter had a Racer Pops Car back in 2004.....great car....

Now my boy is into it and we found this Motivational Tubing car on Ebay for 3500.00(roller) with clutch and tons of spares.
Here's my boys car....when we got the car it was all done as you see it minus motor...chromed...polished...and powder coated. It also came with 3 totes full of parts....2 new front tires...another set of wheels and tires with beadlocks....and a Perfomaire ET predictor/weather station.....deals are out there. Here's a decent deal http://www.racingjunk.com/category/22/Junior_Dragster/post/2101891/spitzer.html

My 2 runts want one also. One is 8 the other is 6. I know they would like it, but I just dont have the time this year. Right now they have dirt bikes to tear up my yard with.

That depends on how they run the program. For us it's Jrs in the morning then big cars in the afternoon.

Dave, join us over in the POOL. I know there are a lot of members in Texas. Maybe one is close to you.

If you want, I'll be happy to PM you My # and try to answer any questions you may have.

Believe me, one car is enough. As long as someone is racing, it is fun to be the "crew chief." I didn't mind watching.
