and you guys pulling a trailer at 100mph are nuts
Only because I'm a adrenaline junky, that last picture was taken with my wife asking me to stop...I've been faster with it. I can't help my self sometimes, it's scary thing.
Same with the car on the salt, I told myself the whole trip, I was gonna drive fast on the salt, it just happens.
I know but there are other people on he road

Not on this road, there was nothing, I swear.
And I do tool around the country at a low RPM, it really don't matter what MPH, it's always about the same RPM.

I went 10.30's with my Valiant last year, but I since sold it. I will never sell my American Flyer trailer-tows so nice.
Switched to the dark side...

i paid $900.00 for my open trailer 14yrs ago.. got my moneys worth time and again.. its been behind my truck 4days a week for work its seen 6 sets of tires its on its 2nd set of shackles ive replaced the tongue twice ..wore right through the steel...on the ball hitch.. ive greased the original timkin bearings countless times..infact if i lift a wheel and spin it by hand..it will rotate for almost 2 minutes.. this trailer towed every car ive owned over the past 14 yrs..it towed the duster home to the paint shop, chassis shop, and to every event the car has run..from Ga.to fla. to Pa.,NJ.,tenn.,ohio,ky,ala,De,Va,Nc,Sc,Il. often more than twice...in a yr. i am hypothisising. but its got over 100,000 maybe as much as 150k..my truck has 130k on it now and my other truck had 80k on it when i bought this trailer ...it had 180k when i sold it and bought this truck...that doesnt account for milage from lending it out.. its due for fenders this yr.and maybe paint if I feel like it.. been more reliable than a dog... if it could talk it would have Quite a few stories to tell..a few doozies also... cheapst

My Duster has not turned a tire in over two years, supposedly it was a mid 12 second bracket car maybe 10 years ago.
Open trailer has been up and down the west coast many times hauling cars, my diesel truck gets about 15 mpg towing, will probably drop to 10-11 mpg with my 9'-11" cab over camper (2700lbs) added to the mix.

MoparBilly has been in the 8's with his Challenger and that car has been all over the country on an open trailer.
All I have ever owned is a home made, open trailer. But Billy has me beat.

As much as I hate to break it to you Ed, The Lagana's have you covered by quite a bit. Granted they retired this ramp truck about 10 years ago but I would bet big $ their 4.87 @ 302 is going to be the "all time speed and ET record" for a car on an open trailer!
I had a car hauler that looked just like that back in the 80s

these days and time it makes sence to pull an open trailer. saves a lot of money. wish I had one.
I agree. Been thinking about going back to an open myself. Enclosed are nice but they are a PITA( fuel cosumption, storage fees, insurance etc etc) Plus with an enclosed you don't get all the thumbs up going down the highway like you you do with an open
Derrick
FWIW, 4 years ago I sold a 49' Gold Rush enclosed trailer setup to race a alcohol car. It was too big to haul my muscle car and knew I was gonna take a few years off racing. It was too much $$ to leave sit around. Man am I glad I sold it before the ecomemy sank. I bought it used and used it for 6 years and sold it for what I paid for it. I did add stuff to it like a 44'awning, pit fans, lights and stuff like that. But dang lucky that I sold it when I did, because I really wanted to keep it.
Then I bought a open trailer from a neighbor and fiqured I'd use it for around town hauling with my dually.
Then I decided why not pull it behind my huge toterhome when we use the toterhome as a RV for summer vacations. I couldn't sell my toterhome, it one of a kind.
Like somone said about the thumbs up while going down the highway. Almost everyone is smiling at us because of the old car on the trailer. It's lot's more fun pulling the open trailer because of everyones reaction. And for as big as the toterhome is, I don't think we are paying a penatly in fuel milage pulling the open trailer.(we have 505hp on tap)
I've pulled my used tilt bed trailer now about 40K miles now and no trouble yet.
But if I was racing, I would want the enclosed. Now I can load in the driveway at home.
