Never hear much about them anymore. I see they still have a website.. QC issues? I know I used to hear about guys using them and having good experiences but not anymore? Whats the story there?
I use them all the time. The quality is outstanding. The rods always check out PERFECT every time. They aren't cheap and they are overkill for a lot of builds. That being said, I highly recommend them.
The best part is that they are made in the USA. MB

dont post something like that, no way is it true .. tell your buddy to learn how to use a stretch gauge.. oliver is the best steel rod ..
Oliver doesn't(or didn't several years back) recommend using a rod bolt stretch gauge to tighten thier rod bolts, they wanted you to use the torque plus so many degrees method I bought s set of their steel billet rods for a blown street Hemi project, some of the rod bolts where one length and some where another, .003 differences I called them and ask about that and they said no big deal, that happens all the time One of the rod caps wasn't machine correctly for the bearing tang, they did pay to have it overnighted Fed Ex back to them and then fed Ex overnighted it back to me I would have prefered that they caught that mistake at thier faciltity instead of letting it slip through thier quality(or lack of quality control) control My opinon is Carillos are better, Olivers are not the best steel rod, or aluminum rod company out there now or in the past 1 bad rod out of a set of 8 equals 12.5 % failure rate Not acceptable in my book

If he's referring to who I think he is, it's true, and probably was using a stretch gauge before you heard on one.

While I won't argue with anyone's personal experiences and I don't disbelieve anyone, I do find it particularly hard to believe. Just for the hell of it, I did a Google search for "problems with Oliver connecting rods". I could find no negative information anywhere. And you know how the internet works. If someone got a paper cut opening a box of Oliver rods, there would be a federal case. I'd have to believe if there was a big quality problem I would be able to easily find something.

that just about sums it up for me too. we've been using and selling thier product for a very long time and i've never had a problem, nor have any of my customers. as far as bolt length goes, i agree with Oliver. your supposed to record the bolt lengths prior to installation of the rods. if they were all exactly the same length, you wouldn't bother because you'd already know the length, right? think about it...

I was asking the same questions a few years back when I was having my stroked 340 built, I ended up choosing between Oliver, Lentz, and Carillo (any of which being overkill for my combo which makes under 500HP). So far my Carillos have been flawless. Based on what I was hearing they are all top shelf rods and cost about the same. In the end I went with Carillo, basically because I hadn't heard enough info or customer experiences with Lentz, I heard of a few minor issues from Oliver customers, and none with Carillo customers, plus I heard Oliver had an ownership change and that might have been a contributor? At any rate I doubt you could go wrong with any of them, all have excellent reputations and build a fine product from what I've seen.

Yes but there is a method to my madness.......I plan on keeping this engine for a long time. It's a new Resto block that's been CNC lightened by RyanJ, Scat lightweight crank, Diamond pistons, hyd cam, T&D rockers, and stock appearing everything else. My CURRENT plans with the engine include running it in a FAST style street Duster on pump gas, but with the stout lower end and $ rocker gear I also have it set up for future upgrades (ported Diamond heads, single plane, roller cam, headers, etc. should reach 650hp or more pretty easily) and I already own most of the parts to get there so I'm buying everything "once" instead of twice, down the road.
