I am wondering can the 440-1 heads and 440-3 intake be gasket matched to the 572-13 gasket size ? if possible is there any gains to be had doing that ? thanks Rich

Thanks i love yours too you know i have seen you around. I was just wondering if it was being done ? i read a old post here from 2009 about the difference in gaskets between the 440-1 and the 572-13 and wondered could it be done and would it help ?
440-1 heads take gasket part number 440-G1-221
opening size is (1.340"x2.650")
572-13&600-13 gasket part number 440-G1-222
opening size (1.475"x2.70")
also the exhaust are not the same
440-1 takes gasket part number 440-G1-221
opening size is (1.890"x1.650")
572-13&600-13 take gasket part number 440-G1-222
opening size is (2.200"x1.820")

FWIW we used to use the 440-3 manifold on -13 heads, port matching this combo, you'll find yourself close to running out of material on the manifold roof, maybe 2mm left, also we had to fill the floor. It doesn't give you lots of faith in the gasket but it seemed to work OK for us. On the other hand it maybe that we had a bad manifold with some of core shift (it was consistent across all ports though). The inlet ports on the -13 heads seem to be higher in the head than the -1's so you may not have any problems. Maybe someone who has both heads will be able to confirm that. The -3x manifold bought to replace it was way better.

It's worth doing IMHO. I'd guess there will be a measurable difference HP wise but seat of the pants?
BTW we picked up a little with the 3X manifold.
Hope this helps

Nice ride! What is your combo?
The 572-13 is a 440-1 casting that has been machined for 13 degree valve angle versus 15 for the 440-1 heads. So that would raise the port location slightly. I wouldn't mess with the exhaust port size, and I think it would be a good idea to tread carefully working with the intake side. Its' tough to replace metal if the mods cost you power instead of increasing it. I agree the 4403X is a great intake, and a proper match to your ports might be the right way to fly. I use the 4403X on my 528.

i just had these 440-1s 345 CNCed by MM, for a 540. the gaskets shown are 2.72 in. x 1.40 (Mr Gasket #302) and they will need trimmed slightly height wise to match the heads.
the 440-3 intake will need a lot of material removed to match up.
i will most likely switch to the 3X now and be done with it....but with that intake, hood clearance will be a concern

do you the trim the gasket at the top outside edge ? where will the most metal have to come off ? .050 on the top. The.135 on the sides would this come off the outside not the port dividers ? can i ask what do they flow ? why dose the 3x need less work than the -3 ? thanks

i just laid the gaskets in place for reference. ony minor trimming will be needed for the gaskets. i don't yet know exactly where the material would have to be removed from the intake. not saying the 3x will take less work.

Muscle Motors says they flow roughly 385-388 intake

has that intake been gasket matched before ? my heads and intake have been matched to the -1 gasket and when i lay the -13 gasket on them most of the work is on the side moving the port twards the bolt holes and very little to the top. your heads look great.
