I'm installing an A/F meter in my 73 Cuda and I need to find a clean looking way to seal the hole in the firewall for the the O2 wire/connector.
Here are the specifics: I already have a 1 3/8" hole in the firewall for the washer pump hoses that I'm going to use for the O2 sensor wire. The O2 sensor wire has a molded connector on one end that needs a 1" hole for the connector to fit through.
Any suggestions for a clean looking way to route the wire through the firewall? I already thought about a plastic plug for the firewall hole, slitting it and then feeding the connector through it. But then you end up having to seal the slit in the plastic plug after the wire has been pulled through.
Anyone have any better ideas? I've attached a pic showing which hole in the fire wall I'm talking about. Thanks.

can you get the tool to pull the wires out of the plug? would be cleaner.

Andrewh,
Don't think that the molded connector can be removed. It looks like they're crimped into a weatherproof connector of some sort.

I have been toying with building aluminum plug/grommets to seal the factory holes and still allow smaller cables to pass through. The piece would overlap the hole by 1/8 inch. The back side would have a shoulder that would be cut to fit through the hole and a thin o-ring would seal the hole from the engine side of the firewall. The disk would be drilled to accomodate the wire or hose that passes through and also partially drilled and tapped for two screws on the back side. A backing plate with a pass-through hole and two screw holes would mate to the disk on the driver's compartment side of the firewall.

Sorry. Here's a crude drawing. Polish, brush, annodize, engrave, clear coat or whatever. A rubber grommet would seal up the center hole around the wire/hose.

I came up with this idea because I am replacing my wiring with a painless type system and I don't want to weld up the factory holes, but want it to show nicely.

I’m listening.

guess I would need to see a pic of the connector. Don't know of any that don't come apart in some way. You just need to know the name of it to find the right tool.

It might be expensive, or it might be cheap. Some run 5 bucks (with 11 dollars shipping) others are closer to 150. but the come apart.

I'd just pair it up with another wire.
If you want a stealthy look just run it through the bulkhead connector.
