What do I do about replacing the external (in line) transmission filter on my '62 Dart wagon (361 4bbl)?

Do these early transmissions have a internal screen? I had another '62 Dart(318)that had a screen and no external filter.

I would like to replace it with another and rather not replace the lines. (seems like good insurance)

Again these early Mopars are fairly new for me and I would appreciate any advice in advance.
Thanks

hi
you need the early stile daycron filter 63-65 for in the pan if you replace the screen .
it will have 2 holes that lay aginst the vb 1 for front pump and a smaller one for the rear pump .
if you use this filter you will not need the one in line , as they are harder to find .
i think i did see the inline advertised someware but i dont remember where now ?

Those line-filters are way OVEkill .. that is why the OEM eliminated them.

The OEM eliminated the external filter in '64 when they went from an internal screen with an external filter to an internal filter only. The two were never used together from the factory.

Replacement filters for the pre-'66 must have two inlet holes, one is for the rear pump. Some of the replacement filters don't have the second hole exposed but the internal steel frame still has the hole; push down on the fabric with your fingertip, if you can feel the hole just trim away the fabric to expose the second hole.
