Ok guys, I have a very nice set of original heads with a nice valve job (no porting) that are ready to bolt on. My short block is junk. Block repaired 30 years ago, 2 scuffed up pistion and it was getting ready to spin a bearing. So I have a bad stock rod and a crank that needs turning.
If I were to build a new short block, I'm wondering what would be the best route to go for a nice motor with a 600 or so lift cam for street and strip use. I have a few intakes to choose from.
If I have to build a new short block, what would be my best bang for the buck?

A 4.15 stroke crank works great with stock bore and heads IMO. A 600ish lift cam works pretty well with those heads as well. And it's no hassle to buy parts for or build. It's like going from 3.54 gears to 4.56 but with none of the tradeoffs.

If you want a lot of torque go with a 4.25 stroke that has 2.2 rod journals (BB Chevy Size ) a 7.1 long steel rod, H or I beam, your choice You'll need a custom piston so get your heads CC so you can get the compression ratio you want
