Does anyone know what aftermarket mufflers (Thrush, Dynomax, etc) sound similar to the original mufflers on Hemi and 440 cars? Looking at getting a pair for my mild 383 and kind of would like something not too loud, but still powerful sounding enough when I floor it.

Thanks

The dynomax ultra turbo is as close as you will get for look and I guess they may sound pretty close.

Anyone else have experience with them? I would be interested in knowing too!

You should try the stock Maremount or Walker passenger car stock mufflers. I beleive I have the Maremount ones in my 68' Coronet. It has a 318, but the sound is just like the back in the day factory muffler which I like. I know they don't flow like the performance ones but the sound is great. I think you'll like them and they last a long time.

Why dont just get repro mufflers from Accurate or Gardner's Exhaust?

Because I didn't know nor ever heard of them. That's why I'm asking. Isn't the repro stuff usually kind of more expensive than the stuff Summit sells that's comparable?

I am sure summit stuff will be cheaper....but check out their prices and decide.

I dont know what "generic" muffler would sound like an OEM hemi muffler though. Maybe somebody else can chime in.

OEM cars had mufflers and then they also had the resonators....
