i finally got the 440 installed in the car, now i can't seem to keep the block heater from blowing out of the block. all i have to do is rev it up a few times and out it comes. are block heaters one time use? i took this one out of the 360 i pulled out. any ideas????

thanks
Shane

well core plugs are one time use, so I'd suppose the heater plug is the same way. Try flaring the lip on the plug and install with some #1 hardening permatex, then let dry good.

Never heard of one falling out. Does it have the v-shaped part on the backside that snugs up against the inside of the block to hold it in place when you tighten the bolt? Maybe the v-shape part doesn't contact the block properly allowing it to slide out?

Having heard stories of the freeze plug style heaters weeping antifreeze I went with a heater that fits into the lower radiator hose instead.

I bought one from NAPA that looks just like this one.

Get a good block heater. Not one that expands to hold in. Get one that has the cross bar that goes across the inside of the block core hole and tightens up with a screw. They have o'ring around the outside. Never had a problem with one of them tha is like this. Notice the btterfly bat on the back side on this pic.

That cross bar should be tightening up across the inside of the block not allowing it to pop out.
