I am replacing the factory leaf springs on a '68 Satellite with the RB/Hemi Springs.

Can you replace these with the rearend still in the car or do you have to take the whole unit out? I was thinking if I kept a jack under the rear and unbolted/replaced one spring at a time it would work out ok. Any problems with this?

Thanks

it can be done that way.
be sure to have an extra jack or two to help compress the leaf spring into place so you can bolt it up.

is easier with two people but can be done with one.

total pita though.

I put a pair of stands under the rear frame rails at a pretty good height then stands under the axle tube on each side of the 3rd member (use a hyd floor jack to raise it just enough then let it back down to get the stands in there at the axles' free hanging height or a hair above) and another stand under the nose of the 8&3/4 to keep it from tipping forward and jambing the ujoint when the axle is free. Remove the 8 nuts w a nut splitter and clean the u bolt threads w a "thread chasing" die then buy 8 new grade 8 nuts (they're cheap). U bolt threads get dinged from road debris getting the orig nuts off can be a weightlifting exercise in addition to overheating/damaging the threads & w new stuff they spin on by hand if you've chased the threads. 45 ft lbs (1/2" threads). lightly snug up both sides u bolt nuts b 4 you fully tighten the u bolt nuts so the axle will be flat/not cocked up a bit and have the large thru the eye front main bolts and the rear shackle 9/16" nuts/bolts lightly snug then set it on the ground at ride height then snug them. Backing up a bit, Start the (4) nuts for the front studs just enough to hold the shackle to give you as much rearward extension as possible to make it easier to start the 2 rear bolts thru the shackle into the frame on each side. EDIT Then get these 4 corners (each shackle to the frame, not the pivot bolts/nuts) in/tight to the frame b 4 you work on the u bolts then the u bolts then set it down & final tighten the rear shackle 9/16" nuts/front thru the eye bolts/nuts
