Has anyone mounted 29x9x15 slicks on a 15x6.5 steel rim?
I thought I had 15x7 rims but after I had them blasted,I realized they were 15x6.5

Ahhh, no. That's not going to work...Think about it, how thick is the side wall alone times two, and you want to compress that into how wide a rim?

If you did still put that in there, it would be a real hazard. Its best to choose a rim with about the width of the fatest part of the slick for stability. The larger growth slicks will recomend skinnier, but I like keeping them more square for stability....

HOW does the tire measure-up just-sitting-there ? IF the tire has a nice flexible sidewall - I don't think that there will be any probs at all.

Just sitting there, the beads measure 6.5 inches outside to outside.
I thought I might mount them and see if they bulge too far.
If they do I am not gonna chance it.I'll order some 15x8's

I had a 9 (28 or 29 tall) inch slick on a set of stock rally wheels one time. Worked/looked fine. Maybe alittle smaller than it should have been. Drove fine. Hooked good for the amount of power I had.

With a narrow rim, you'll need to lower pressure for more rubber on the track. But it will wrinkle/squish and wear out the sidewalls faster, and may "wander" on the top end. Add air pressure, you lose contact patch which defeats the purpose of a wider tire. It may "work", but not as well and as long as with a wider rim.

Get a 9-10" rim if you have enough sidewall clearances in the wheelwell. You can run more pressure and still get a good contact patch, longer wearing tire and more stable.

I remember those day's, wider slicks on narrow rim. Living in Michigan in the winter prepared me for the slippery feel ride at the top end. I didn't like it at all.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Thanks for the advice, looks like I'm gonna look for a cheap pair of 15x8's (15x10's too wide for car)

Get a pr of light weight steel circle track wheels from Bart. I have a set of 8's and a pair of 10's. Wish you were closer we could get together. http://www.summitracing.com/search/Brand/Bart-Wheels/

Tons of used rims out there too.........that way you won't feel bad about drilling them for screws.
As to the original question............I would NEVER consider doing this.
