Wow that's a very clean looking car did it have stock heads.? factory or aftermarket what type tires out back when you ran it was the 292/509 cam the old profile.?

Sorry for the late reply. It had template ported '72 452 heads on it. A couple of tricks for weight transfer; late K-member set the engine back 1-1/2", rear hole on the spring perch moved the rear foward an inch. Tires were M/T drag radials with SS springs. The cam was the new profile (2007). Board member on here has it. If I had a garage big enough, it would still be mine

Here's another pic.

I absolutely loved mine. I built it in 1984 by the Direct Connection book, but used Stage IV heads as well. 11:1 compression, 509 cam advanced 4 degrees, and a CH4B dual-plane intake with 850 DP Holley and 2" Hooker Super Comp headers. I never got to the track, but with 4.10 gears it would annihilate 275/60-15 BFG T/As through 3rd gear if the street wasn't perfectly clean. It's a 4-speed car and drove like a perfect kitten, even with a very light aluminum flywheel. Had 18" of vacuum at 900 RPM idle, too. <edit> um...maybe that was 14" lol.

When it comes to boards like this everyone recommends to only do it once the right way and its so cheap to buy this part you should do it based on that fact. Its like buying crap in bulk that goes stale before you ever eat it.

The adjustable valve train does open a pandora's box of spending, as stated above. On a 3000 or less budgeted engine, buying something needing an adjustable valve train adds another 500 bucks on top, and thats assuming you bought more expensive pistons with the right valve reliefs to allow more lift. And then you aren't getting much more because your 906 heads dont flow above .500 lift as previously stated. So you buy the stealth heads or eddys because they're only about 400-700 more than a valve job and new valves. And hopefully your aftermarket heads check out good and dont need cleaning up. You just turned a cheap 2500-3000 rebuild into a 4000+ rebuild. Sometimes its just easier to stick with what works if high 11s and low 12s are enough for you.

And a buddy of mine used the Comp 509 when his last 509 broke in half. Car idles pretty smooth and he said its must more street friendly, but pulls even a little bit harder up top. I think the Comp version would probably be a good cam to run, at least you can take advantage of some of the newer technology with the advantages of the old 509.

Well i can tell you this my current set up has no problem running & running hard.! its not i don't have enough i could get 800hp with a few minor thing done in no time ** but i have made a choice to use a more mild street set up and get more use for what i want as far as a weekend play toy.!
** I had a very close friend that had a 70 cuda with a 950 hp stroker motor and hated it after he did it because there are limits to what u can & can't do that goes with everything.!
****
Like i have said before i am not hear to debate, to say my way is right and everone else is wrong i just like hearing what other have done with there cars by useing the mopar 292/509 cam if other like a different one then i say use it and enjoy.!
