1968 - maroon gut RR - plain steering wheel with chrome horn ring and maroon horn center cap. Would the plastic steering wheel be black or maroon? Did they have maroon in 68?

thanks

I just read a story in an old MCG. was about an original owner '68 GTX Maroon with maoon interior. came from the factory with a black wheel and a maroon horn pad. then they got letters from guys with maroon Super Bees,Chargers,nd road runners, all '68s. some had a black wheel, some had the maroon wheels. another case where Ma put on whatever was in the parts bin at the time.

Hi Mike, do you have a broadcast sheet for the car??? That's the only way to know what color wheel was supposed to be installed on the car at the factory.

Anything other than a code on a broadcast sheet is just an opinion and you know what they say about opinions? LOL

Or a wood grain style wheel (They have the same spokes as the wood grain wheels but there aren't any stainless rings around the rim) painted Maroon with a Maroon center cap. Here is one I did for FURYDAVE in his blown Fury.

I like the look and ideas - I will probobly go with a woodgrain and maroon center cap. I don't really like the original 68 standard wheels which i'm sure mine would have had. No build sheet -
thanks for the ideas

Just like this, insert Maroon horn cap and away you go

I can now re-plate the spokes in a satin chrome so any wheel can be brought back to life no matter how pitted and rusty the spokes are.

I swapped out the woodgrain wheel out of my Polara and put it in my Coronet looks nice. The original steering wheel had some cracks in it.

That has to be a pretty rare option, I don't know that I've ever seen one like it...Looks Cool!!

Hi Randy! Yes it's not very common but I have done several over the years. It's an interesting look after seeing all the wood grain versions.

I'm trying to convince a customer to let me paint the back half of his wood grain wheel a solid color and do the wood graining on the front half of the rim. With the stainless rings separating the front and rear it would give the wheel a rim blow look but still look like it could have come from the factory that way.
