It was auctioned off today....The news is this, "The highest bid for Memphis Motorsports Park was given by independent investor Joe Lubeck of $1.875 million during an auction today.

An official with Morris Auction Group, which handled the sale, said Lubeck intends to restore the track and ...bring auto racing back to Memphis."

Anyone know about this Joe Lubeck?

news report

While researching Joe I found this very intersting site on the last 10 yrs of history of Dover motorsports. Dover history web site

It seems Joe is part of Moroso investment group!

Palm Beach is IHRA. I bet IHRA can find a place in their schedule.

"Tuesday’s auction comes after both the NASCAR and NHRA 2011 schedules have been released. While the NHRA has 140 member tracks, Memphis was one of only 23 to host a national event and was awarded a sanction in 1988 as the host site of the Mid-South Nationals.

“I can only imagine that it would be challenging to try to be added to their schedule at this point,” Camp said. “But the facility is in great shape, and with some minor work, both the NHRA and the Motorsports oval could be race ready.”

I sure hope they DO reopen it

I went to the history site for Dover
is John W. Rollins related to the Rollins in Millington?

I will go back and read again and find out once I get done with this last exam

Dover HAS accepted the offer after it was increased.

web page

Dover Motorsports Inc. has accepted a $2.625 million bid from a Florida investment group for the currently shuttered Memphis Motorsports Park.

The group, led by Joe Lubeck, was the high bidder during an auction for the Motorsports Park held Tuesday morning. The auction was handled by Morris Auction Group. The group will have until Jan. 15 to close on the property.

The park was offered in two tracts, totaling 342 acres and including the paved oval, drag strip and 1.77 mile road course.

Dover, which closed the Motorsports Park in October 2009, had originally hired Colliers Wilkinson Snowden to help the company find a buyer for the park for an original sale price of $6 million, but potential buyers couldn’t find financing to finalize the deal. Dover also recently closed Gateway International Raceway in Illinois. Dover officials have cited current economic conditions for the reason behind its track closures.

The potential new owners also reopened Palm Beach International Raceway in West Palm Beach, Fla., which incidentally, employs Jason Rittenberry, MMP’s former general manager.

While new ownership will be able to attract national races, there is no guarantee NASCAR or NHRA will return to the facility.

The new owners will also have to invest money in renovating the facility, which has deteriorated somewhat after being deserted for a year. A portion of the grandstand’s seats have already been removed and other seats were damaged by weather.
