i am more sick of reading about mopars with huge engines that run 11s in the mopar mags and that is why i spend the majority of my time on here when i want to read something. have you ever read about a mopar in a magazine that is more interesting than Brad Hs challenger? Nope, didnt think so
i found the LS head article interesting

If you guys want to see some decent Mopars in the mags, I will tell you the same thing they are telling people DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Nobody wants to see a warmed over A,B, or E body with some alum heads and nice wheels, that maybe runs 11s. That unimaginitive crap is in the Mopar mags. You build a truly different Mopar and the mags will line up to feature it.
Every hi-tech Mopar that has been built the last few years, has been in nearly every mag. Just not many come around.
As far as the chevy oriented engine features.....a TRUE car crafter, can take an article about anything and learn from it. All engines are basically the same, just different logos on the side.
Monte
I agree Totally!!!!
As the old saying goes, "you've got to know your opponent to beat them". I subscribe to 2 Chevy mags, 2 Mopar, an even split. Nobody wants to touch a laptop keyboard after you've taken it to the bathroom, so magazines still stock the library.
And the old Mopar magazines are very handy when you want to do a rear axle/diff rebuild. The Miller service tools are long gone and the more recent methods in tech articles are better.

All the guys yearning for the old SS&DI and some of the others, may not exactly remember what was there. Lots of event coverage, some tech, not much and good editorials. In the internet age, race coverage is instant and good editorials from those that wrote in SS&DI can be found on the internet, just have to look for it. Modern mags are about popular trends and fads. A slightly warmed over muscle car, is not a real popular magazine story at the moment. Now put an LS, late HEMI, turbo or supercharger on that muscle car and you have a story people want to see.

In a small artice within the ls powered car section they did say the 1st. and 2nd small block chevy crate motors are still the best sellers so there still is more old school guys than new.
Not necessarily...used LS engines are still available all over the place even with low miles on them. People don't buy a crate LS because you can buy a used 40K mile LS with harness and computer and everything for $3000 easy. When those start running thin...they will probably sell more crate LS's than they do currently.
The gently used old school Gen 1 and 2 SB chevy supply ran out a long time ago.

I think Monte is right....people want to see something unique. Mopar guys don't seem to like technology though....I'm adding a LS fuel injection, computer and coil on plug to my 440 mopar and have posted about the low buck conversion...but it doesn't seem like people are too interested even if it only costs $800. But thats ok....I think it's cool and unique.

Example......when the GM guys developed the spread port, pro-stock style, big block head, the GM guys lined up for them in droves, because it was the sure way to push their motors to the next level. When a Mopar guy, designed a spreadport Mopar head, the "Predator", he was crucified, because it did not "look" like a Mopar head...........................................................Modern day..there have been countless redesigns of the BBC spreadport head and a new one seems to come out every couple months and the Predator head is STILL not readily accepted as a true Mopar head.....heads in the sand syndrome.

Thanks, Monte. And a few of the other guys.
In, say, 1953, there were FAR more flathead Fords than anything, and HRM covered Cad and Olds swaps. In 1955, there were still way more flatties and early overheads, but HRM covered the new small Chevy.
And to bring it home, in 1964 there were WAY more 354s and 392s than 426s, but HRM covered the new 426 Hemi.

Since I'm not at all into late model stuff, especially chevy late model stuff, my 1st thought was to throw away the magazine after I read all the non-LS stuff. But then I reconsidered. It sure dosen't hurt to learn something new. Even if I'll never own an LS, at least now I'll sort of know what people are talking about when the subject comes up in bench racing sessions. So I'm going to read it, maybe I'll even find it interesting.

That was my point earlier, now with the 5.7 and 6.1 Hemi's capable of making some steam (enginemasters mag) then maybe there will be some article's on the new hemi"s to give us a better chance of competing against the LS bowtie stuff.hint, hint

I am Mopar to the bone. It's all I buy and all I race, but it is not all I want to know about cars. I found the articles very interesting and informative. Who knows, I may get the chance to work on one of the LS motors one day and I don't want to be in the dark about them.
The one thing I found disappointing was the only Mopar in the mag. A 505 ci. with 4.56 gears only running 11s? My stock bottom end 360 with an outdated purple shaft cam and shaved "J" heads runs 11s. And they put a headline on the cover like it was super quick or something.
