My trucks finally all up and running. I've Got the PATC kit on to control OD and Torque converter Lock-up. And I have a question about setting up the vacuum switch, when should it be on ? I wired it up and plugged it into manifold vacuum just as it was set when shipped and I had power to both sides the switch at idle. I then turned the allen screw until it switched off at idle and just comes on when vacuum increases. Anyone know the correct way to set this up? You'd think for $85 they would have some instructions with their kit....???

I have this same set up on my 36. I used GM #14014519 vacuum switch instead of the adjustable one, could never get that one to work right. If I understand the switch is normally open. At idle there is vacuum and the switch closes the circuit. The OD and lockup circuits should not be complete until the pressure switches close at whatever speed or pressure they are set for. I found the GM switch at pull a part. A lot of 80's vans used them. Look at the last picture on this link. Get the wiring hook up from the donor!

I searched for some other options before buying the PATC kit every trans shop I called was out of stock on the chevy switches, so I ended up just buying the PATC kit. I have emailed them ...but no reply.

Switch should be hot on both sides with the engine running until you get on the gas enough to lower the vacuum below 4". That's the way my gm switch works to keep the od from kicking in and out while normally accelerating. You need power going to the SOLENOIDS or they won't engage the od and lock up. Vacuum drops when you get hard into the gas and opens the switch kicking out the od and lockup until you ease up on the go pedal. Then the vacuum goes up and od kicks back in.

so with power to both sides of the vac switch is the TC locked up or does it also have to get to a certain pressure or rpm to lock up?

With power coming out of the vacuum switch the od and lock up come in when the pressure in the trans reaches what ever the pressure switchs are rated at. The vacuum switch feeds the solenoids in the trans and the pressure switchs provide the grounds to make them engage. That is why you don't use any sealer on the pressure switch install because it wouldn't let the PS ground. I said pressure switchs in the post you quoted and I should have said solenoids so I edited it for the correct term.

What has that got to do with what we are talking about?

I did use teflon tape on the switches... but the OD is engaging, although it is in-out-in-out-in-out which I assumed was either the TV cable adjustment or the vacuum switch adjustment. the 1-2-3 shift seems ok right now so I thought I would try adjusting the vacuum switch point.

Keep playing with the vacuum switch adjustment until you get it where you want it. You do want power out of the switch at idle and then go a couple of more turns and see how it does.
