What sort of power steering brackets are needed to allow this bolt on to the block? My neighbor went from a mid 70's block to a 71 casting date block with no provisions to bolt the power steering unit.

that is what leads me to believe that brackets from a different year or something is what he needs to get it to work. The pump/brackets are original ones to the car(1973?.

The same brackets that he took off should bolt up.Doing something wrong year shouldn't matter.

not seeing how it is possible as there are no bolt holes on the front face of the block to anchor the bracket to. the mid 70's block had two bolt holes and the 71 block has none. maybe a different style power steering pump is needed???

this is how mine looks...late style power steering brackets, so also use the shorter oil filter (Wix 51068) all bolts to the water pump housing

73 and lates BB/RB has a provision to steering pump assembly in front.

Since 73s all BB belt setup was changed, as does the water pump lower outlet. That made posible fit the steering pump lower into engine bay.

SO, these blocks have a provision

all this change MAYBE because C bodies got air pumps ( emission restrictions ) around the place where earliers Steering pumps were before

note the attachment for the steering pump location since 73s... long bolt threads into the block... maybe hard to se it but it is.

Just pick-up a set of pre-73' Saginaw pump brackets designed to mount to the water pump housing. If you can't locate originals there several reproductions available . Should look something like this;
