Might be a old vid........

About half way through that vid is the "White Lightening" Allison powered rail. Our 64 Dodge is in the background ( in the pits ) at the end of that vid. Raced at that track more than any other in the midwest area.

Crizila,
You must have been a high roller back then, I spotted that 'Ideal' Trailer!

Remembering the past is okay as long as it's not all one does.

Ya, it's fun to remember that stuff and look at the old pics once in a while, but dwelling / living in the past too much is a bad thing. I can truthfully say that when my wife and I go to the track today we have every bit as much fun as I did way back when. It is different - no doubt, but still fun. I'm very lucky to have a wife that enjoys it as much as I do.

I remember back in the early 80s someone making $4/hour could could get and fix up (or drive as is) a great running musclecar. The pre 1972 440s and 383s were PLENTIFULL and you could run one as is- OR you could do a rings bearings and gasket rebuild with Blackjack headers, Torker intake and a Holley carb and be the street racing king. This could be done on a working kids wage. In 2010 I dont see any low income kids who can buy a 10 year old stang and rebuild the motor- let along buy and install hi po goodies. Its just not a gearhead friendly day and age.

Keep old mopars alive.

I don't really get this post?

Im only 21 so I like hearing about the past. I like seeing the pictures of how things used to be. I like hearing the stories at the race track. The crazy street racing.. etc.

Whats so wrong about seeing pictures and talking about the past? Its a learning experience for some of us. Its the grassroots of why drag racing is what it is today.

They teach history throughout school... so why cant history be taught about a sport that we all love? call me crazy but i like knowing everything I can about this sport.

Heck I race in Nostalgia Super Stock... A class developed so it would be "like" racing in the past... Call it living in the past or whatever you want but these cars may look the part but they all have parts from the present.

So I hope you all continue to post pics and tell stories about the past and how it used to be. Like I said.. some of us were not around for it.

Maybe I got this post all wrong, but this is how I took it.

Casey

You basically got it right... its just that SOME
want to live the good old days ALL the time... I dont
mind it once in a while because I did enjoy those
day... even in your class they want you to use some
part or parts that are era correct and that doesnt
allow for max power..... JMO

I'm just trying to create some "Good old days" NOW with some good OLD stuff.

Lets face it, old tech is fun and basic. And NOW there's more aftermarket and new tech stuff to compliment it.

But when it comes to having the same old hairstyle like back in the day............that's where I draw the line.

Take the good from the old and enjoy it now with the new.

life moves on... just seems like some people dont
I'm not saying its a bad thing just wondering

Mr P Body you have to understand people get nostalgia for a whole host of reasons but for us car guys especially for me it brings back fond memories of friends and family we have left behind and are youthful days and seemingly simpler times it just seems today we live in a more stressfull time.

Yes you are right you have that right but your perspective might be different if you feared getting drated or did get drafted to go to war.

I would have no problem fighting for our country I did not have to but I would have and to those that did I have all the respect for in the world but I would think that most of them hate to see what our government has allowed to happen to this country.

So what are you saying here….are all threads that have to do with the past are now going to be banned on Moparts?

See, I along with a lot of other people on here were not around when a lot of history was being made, so we have to live it through old pictures, videos and stories.

As far as I'm concerned, racing lost it's hart in the late 80’s early 90's when racers started using delay boxes, cross over boxes and throttle stops. Geez, some of the cars have more buttons on the steering wheel than the space shuttle. To me that sux's. If you can't hit the light the first time then you shouldn't be in the damn car. (JMO) If you can't run the number with out using a timer to shut the carb off then you shouldn't be in the car. (JMO)
I personally hate WATCHING bracket racing... I think it's like watching paint dry. Bracket racing is the reason why there are no more crowds at the drag strip. Have you ever heard someone in the stands trying to explain to a first timer why the car that lost went TOO FAST?
Now before everyone jumps on me about bracket racing... I do understand that if it were not for bracket racing drag racing would have died years ago just because of cost. It's here to stay and I understand it but I don't have to like it. And yes when your racing the car it is exciting for the driver.

So I guess I'll have to live the great class racing years through old pictures, stories, and videos.

I guess people who like to wear cowboy hats and boots just can’t get over the past either.

I always enjoy talking about the past and all the memorys good and bad.It is great to share all the experiences and knowledge that one aquires over many years and makes for good bench racing.I get a kick from sitting around at events and watching the faces on the younger guys as stories are being told.Still the way I reflex the past is after each day sitting back and being thankful for having had another day to enjoy and looking forward to another one tommarrow. The past is the sum of all our yesterdays leading up to who we are today and the future is what we do with all we have experienced in the past. The best is when your sitting in that rocking chair on the porch with a big grin on your face remembering all the things you did in the past and not sitting there thinking about all the things you wished you had done.We are all here for a visit, make the most of it You never know when the clock stops ticking."It's not the years in life, but the life lived in the years"Abe Lincoln

Nope... thats not at all what I am saying... believe
me I enjoyed the "good old days" and maybe I enjoy the
current times even better.... I'm sure I'll think
about the good old days much more when I'm on my
way out... but for me I spend more time in the current
and what needs to happen tomorrow... you know I
think I might have figured it out(a little) but if
you have spare time and just sitting around doing
nothing then thats when you start reminiscing, so
maybe I just dont allow my self that much spare time
(I am usually busy)
