Alright..here's the latest issue with my truck...rebuilt 318 LA motor with roller cam (stock profile)A518 automatic overdrive with PATC kit. Timing set at 12 degrees, Curb Idle at 850, i'm pulling 23-24 inches of vacuum at idle in park. ........when i put it in gear (Reverse or drive) it stalls. checked for vacuum leaks (has all new hoses and plugs etc.)none.... I bumped up the curb idle to 900 RPM same deal....turned up idle mixture same deal... what next....could it be a bad torque converter??? it will sit and idle fine and starts right up every time.

Might take out the idle mix screws (count the # of turns) & shoot a 2 second blast of starting fluid in each hole & reinstall the screws. The specs you posted sound good. I was thinking we tried the starting fluid b 4 & it didn't help

Apply the brakes with your left foot and try to keep it running with throttle after it tries to stall in gear, if you can keep it running with more throttle the converter probably isn't the problem.

What he said , if you have something setup wrong and the lockup clutch is applied it will stall when you put it in gear if your foot is firmly on the brake.

So if something is set up wrong, and the converter is locked up....how would I dis-engage the lock up?

(the PATC kit is installed how the instructions said with 44psi and 52 psi witches T'd off the pressure port and I have the on / off toggle in line with the 44psi switch. and the vacuum switch to keyed positive with a fuse)

I'm gonna disconnect the vacuum switch and see what it does...

I had the same situation. I was sure it was a convertor, it wasn't. All my readings were as yours are, good vacuum and smooth idle. It was a carb problem the whole time. It was a fairly new edlebrock so i had kind of elimanated it from being a problem . Try swapping a different known good carb before you pull the trans. I wish i had. I did take the carb apart and didn't see anything unusual in it , i wish i knew what it's problem was.

Even with the lockup wire energized the converter won't lockup until after the 2-3 shift.

Converter lockup at a standstill is a hydraulic problem, leakage in the front pump area.

It was a bad carburator.. I bought a new one and bolted her on.... runs good, goes in gear and does not stall. something with the idle circuit. I'll rebuild the old one at some point.
