I've always been curious what the DB level is on a
top fueler at the standard distance (for automotive
pass by... 3')

i took a non automotive freind to a race where they had top fuel cars and jet cars.his take was the jet cars were like strapping a bottle rocket to a fly,but those top fuel cars shook everthing including the change in his pockets, that been almost 20 years ago and if you mention racing around him he tells the story of his first time.priceless.

We were at the Gatornationals one year and an apparent first timer was in front of us. He thought they were loud on the burnout, but when the motors were under load as the clutch came in during the actual pass, the guy starts yelling " My adams apple was flopping around so bad I thought I was going to choke on it". Hilarious to the seasoned fans.

I had been to the Funny Car races a few times at Byron back in the late 60's-early 70's. Did not think that was too bad.

A few years ago I went down to Joliet for the NHRA Saturday qualifying. I was setting 11 rows back, straight out from the starting line.

The aluminum stands would just vibrate when the cars left. If is sat facing the cars, my whole chest would flex.

It was great!

I took the wife to Route 66 a couple of years ago for
the NHRA event... we were right at the 60' lights...
this wasnt the first time for for her but never in
this good of seating... when the fuelers and funny
car would leave she said they hurt her chest due to
the pressure and vibration..... I asked if I should
rub it for her
Come to think about it... she took me there ... it was
my birthday... thats a good wife

Bandimeer "SP" 2006, My dad and I were next to an older biker, really nice guy after we talked for a while, but the fuelers were going and we were basically at the launch, and I looked over at him and his ears were bleeding, I mean blood was coming out of his left ear. I said your ears are bleeding, he said what??? I said it again, and gave him a napkin, he wipped out his ear, and said it happends everytime he goes to the races. He also said he was legally deff. Wonder why. COuldnt believe it. just scarry how he just stood there. After we talked about an hr after his problem, he told dad and I what had happened to him and his ears were shot. Dont remember what exactly happened to him, he had a scientific reason but it slips my mind. He had hearing plugs later on in the day.

Crazy loud cars.

Kasey

Back in the 90's the girl I was dating at the time had never been to a drag race. So I took her to Rockingham for the IHRA National event. I warned her about the fuel cars & expected that after the first round she would have had enough & want to go home. Well after 2 rounds she wanted to watch the crews do their rebuilds in the pits so we went and watched that. She loved it! I asked was she ready to go home yet & she said no way. I want to go watch the fuel cars some more
I was so proud. She ended up moving back to Maryland for family reasons so I suppose some lucky guy there has her. If he was not a drag race fan I bet he is now

My first time was a experience I didnt expect some 25 years ago. The Percussion on the chest and eyes were something else. I was standing at the fence some 80 ft. away at the 60 ft.mark.

The percussion vibrations on the eyeballs surface was enough to cause blurred vision on that part of the pass. mike

Still the best thing to do is buy your buddies a beer/soda and tell them to slam it right before TF....especially if they are newbies.....then you get to laugh your rear off as they belch to relieve the pressure. Instant bloat !!!!

Number of times the engine's crankshaft turns during the entire quarter mile. Each intake valve opens 284 times.

hard to believe

you should try standing between them on the starting line when they run, I was fortunate enough for a couple of seasons as starter at Milan to be able to do that.

how much nitro they were burning... I had to get out
of the tent area so I could breathe... sure did

My best experience with a fuel noob was in 2006. Brought a young lady friend of mine to Infineon for the Autolite's. We just finished getting beers when the first pair fo fuelers started their burnout. So I rush her over to an open area of fence right next to the tower and just behind the bleach box. The pair explodes off the line, I turn to see the look on her face. Apparently, as the fourth yellow got lit, she decided to take a swig of beer. She must have jumped about three feet up! Face, hair, shirt, shoes, and ground covered in half a beer. Wish I had it on video.
