I've always been curious what the DB level is on a top fueler at the standard distance (for automotive pass by... 3')

I had been to the Funny Car races a few times at Byron back in the late 60's-early 70's. Did not think that was too bad.
A few years ago I went down to Joliet for the NHRA Saturday qualifying. I was setting 11 rows back, straight out from the starting line.
The aluminum stands would just vibrate when the cars left. If is sat facing the cars, my whole chest would flex.
It was great!

I took the wife to Route 66 a couple of years ago for the NHRA event... we were right at the 60' lights... this wasnt the first time for for her but never in this good of seating... when the fuelers and funny car would leave she said they hurt her chest due to the pressure and vibration..... I asked if I should rub it for her Come to think about it... she took me there ... it was my birthday... thats a good wife

Bandimeer "SP" 2006, My dad and I were next to an older biker, really nice guy after we talked for a while, but the fuelers were going and we were basically at the launch, and I looked over at him and his ears were bleeding, I mean blood was coming out of his left ear. I said your ears are bleeding, he said what??? I said it again, and gave him a napkin, he wipped out his ear, and said it happends everytime he goes to the races. He also said he was legally deff. Wonder why. COuldnt believe it. just scarry how he just stood there. After we talked about an hr after his problem, he told dad and I what had happened to him and his ears were shot. Dont remember what exactly happened to him, he had a scientific reason but it slips my mind. He had hearing plugs later on in the day.
Crazy loud cars.

My best experience with a fuel noob was in 2006. Brought a young lady friend of mine to Infineon for the Autolite's. We just finished getting beers when the first pair fo fuelers started their burnout. So I rush her over to an open area of fence right next to the tower and just behind the bleach box. The pair explodes off the line, I turn to see the look on her face. Apparently, as the fourth yellow got lit, she decided to take a swig of beer. She must have jumped about three feet up! Face, hair, shirt, shoes, and ground covered in half a beer. Wish I had it on video.

This all reminds me of the first time I took Taylor to see them. It was the Night Under Fire at Norwalk so their were many of the same cars she's seen day in and day out just about every day of her life.
Understandably, she was getting bored.
Just after she told me she was getting bored, Force and Height made a burn out. Her face was
"still bored?" I asked
Another time Hillary Will was at the Norwalk CCE race making some 1/8th mile test passes. Taylor was at the very top of the grand stands and said she made the whole stands shake.

Well. lets try to attach some real numbers to the question, with a few assumptions thrown in. Say A TF produces 6,000hp. Assume 33% efficiency, 1/3 hp/work, 1/3 Heat, and 1/3 acoustic energy. 1 Hp equals 754? acoustic watts. A Very high grade Pro Sound system might approach 30% output efficiency, means you put in 100 Watts RMs, you only get 30 acoustic wattss output. A high end home stereo might aprroach 10%, typically they are 1-4%. Therefore your home stereo would need RMS watts to reproduce a TF: 6000(HP)x 754 / .04= 113,100,000 Watts Your neighbors would likely complain
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I think your about 2000 HP low on your estimate so we can add to your wattage figure.
