if you use lacquer primer with or without sealer it will soak down shrink crack and have trouble holding a gloss it will also chip much easier. if you plan on using a catalyzed paint use a catalysed primers. the job will hold a gloss longer and be much more durable so it will look better longer. just my

you should remove ALL of the lacquer products before top coating with 2K products for maximum durability. as how much you will need. it depends how thick you spray primer and what you are priming over.

What type of top coat did you use on your son's car? Laquer? Enamel? base / clear urethane..? On your satellite if it is going to be garaged most of the time you can simply seal the primer and top coat it with your choice of paint.. If it is going to be a daily driver parked outside, you should strip off the laquer primer and start over.. A rag with thinner will remove the laquer primer pretty quickly... Here is a recent pic of my 68 Charger painted with laquer primer, sealed and laquer top coat with laquer clear... I painted in 1992 at home.. it stays in the garage covered most of the time..

I used Dupont Chromabase and Chromaclear on the car. I thought that it turned out pretty good. Not overly concerened about the Malibu, just don't want to have problems with the Satellite. Here's the Malibu fender painted and installed. I still have to replace the bumper.
