I am toying with the idea of converting my 68 rb 440 (540) cuda to fuel injection. I have done some research on the units avaliable but all i can seem to find is testimonial from users on their site...

Im curious what anyone here has done, that works and is capable of big hp (650-800). The self tuning fast xfi says under 600, so that is out...
Plus its like 4,000 bucks...

i'd like to see if building a kit is cheaper like under 1500

I have a honda that i have been tuning, and it has really opened my eyes to how awesome FI really is, that complete control of fuel at every rpm at and every engine load along with every engine temp!!!!! infinate adjustability that is percise!!!! I want it!

So any info would be awesome guys thanks.

Welcome!

I love my MegaSquirt. It can do almost evrything the "Big boys" can and is very inexpensive. If you are so inclined you can buy a DIY kit for about $240 or a fully assembled controller for $420 from http://www.diyautotune.com/. If you buy from them you get full tech support. They are involved in a DragPak Challenger too. I've had MegaSquirt on my race car for four years now and I love it. The system is capable of unlimited HP as long as the rest of the fuel system is up to it. The rest of the system can be expensive, but if your resourseful you can do it with out breaking the bank. www.msefi.com

Good Luck

Dave

PS Love your handle!

Well like I said about not breaking the bank, those throttle bodies are from a 3.5 litre Dodge Intrepid (68mm i think, from the junk-yard) The intake lower was an e-bay find (35$) The plenum and fuel rails I made myself. The fuel injectors are Mopar Performance Super 60 +40 (40$ ea)
The car starts and runs alot like my wife's minivan! except it runs almost 10 flat @ 135! 60' times are kinda weak (1.42) but I hope that my front susp. mods will help that.
When I first put it all together I was worried the throttle response would be too "twitchy", but that is not the case at all. I calculate the cfm for all three t/b's @ 1500.

I run mechanical injection on my 498 and it makes 867 with a B1-BS head. I have two Injectorators on a tunnel ram with a Waterman pump. I have now idea how to tune an electronic set up but I probably will if I ever add a Turbo.

With 540 CID, you don't need electronic fuel injection to make that horsepower. The heads make power, and a simple, cheap (less than $2000) mechanical fuel injection can do it (ie. Rons fuel injection http://ronsfuel.com ) That is what I run.

Well, EFI isn't cheap. That said, the EZ-efi set-up can be pushed to that level with either twin TB's or the 8 injectors and one throttle plate. Its self learning, and as long as you N/A, your good. I have the single EZ-efi TB on my Pro street D100 and the full Classic FAST on my Cuda. Both are awesome. The self learning update on the new XFI, I didn't realize it has an HP limit. The EZ-efi doesn't require a computer, and is very easy to set-up and tune, and by tune, I mean, just drive it.

I have EFI on a big rb. Get an old FAST unit and never have an issue. Make sure you get the WB02. Mine is sequential but that's not that important.

I love my megasquirt but I already had EFI hardware in place so it was just a simple wiring affair.

It is really slick, if takes a bit more reading than some of the bigger systems but you get the same or more features and performance for a LOT less money.

on my 540 its justy a big street engine, i had it idleing at 900 rpms... some lope. roller cam, victor heads slight work done to them. 10.5 to 1 compression, maybe 11 to 1 i forgot, and a 250 cheater NOS. I just want to be able to start it up and drive it... i want the best of both worlds in a car, fast and reliable with the best possible mpg

I am. I've got the controller assembled and 95% of the parts on hand. But my car is in pieces right now and am hoping for a spring completion. Mine's going to be a 440 with a centrifugal supercharger. I'm waiting for one company to come out with an upgrade they have in the works for my supercharger so I should do about 600hp and at least that much torq. The megasquirt is the only way I could conceivably stay within my efi budgetary requirements.
