I haven't had chance to read it yet, as my newsletters usually arrive in the middle of the month. But from what I hear you can thank Dave for the article. Actually Dave THANK YOU, because from reading the article Larry Bell gave me a call, and put me in touch with my dads old RED on RED Daytona. I'm planning a trip to go see it on Saturday, maybe before the Swap meet, or possibly after the swap.

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

Thats good to hear your dads car was found and still in the area and not destroyed or overseas. And in In your home state.Larry bell has had a green daytona and a red daytona a challengers and lived in New Castle IN.I gave Dave Patik your dads cars info after you contacted me and other sources. As Dave Patik has been on the wing car seen a longtime and knows of many cars and owners. And I suggested by hunting through the clubs newsletters for a owner story on that particular car .Or maybe find more vin info on your dads past owned cars.and Dave Patik came up with the other great tips and suggestions. But like in the movie vanishing point 2 it takes a mopar to catch a mopar .It takes a wingcar guy to find another wingcar as it did in your case.Congrats to Larry Bell for aiding you in this search .And Lets see some pictures after your visit back from the time machine wing car of your past

Just to add an international flavour to this fascinating thread, here's a pic I took of 4 'birds on the seafront in my hometown of Brighton in Sussex, England in about 1983, at one of the earliest MMA UK meets. At the time, this represented about 50% of the wing cars in the UK, but several others have visited these shores since then.

The red car nearest the camera has been restored back to its correct Petty blue in the last year, having spent almost 20 years dismantled in boxes scattered around the UK (well done Pete!)

Would that petty blue car be the Payson Crowell car from 1979 in Richmond Va

Not sure - I think it had been in the UK for a few years prior to 1983. It's a 4bbl auto. Here's a better pic.

...and here's a corner of it as it appears now. Alex posted a few pics of it on another thread on Moparts recently.

Wait a minute - that sounds likely. I believe the 'bird was imported by the same guy that imported my Coronet in 1980 ("Big George"), and that came from Mechanicsville, nr Richmond VA. I've been trying to trace the previous owner(s) of mine. Who's this Payson Crowell guy? Could he have owned my Coronet too?

Adam/wingcars, yes it is that car, remember Wing, you sent me the details of it a while back when I posted pics of how I was getting on with restoring it.

I should have some good pics of it very soon as I am going to do some final detail work on it on thursday

Hopefully when I get to hook up with the current owner this weekend, he will have some info on the other cars my dad sold. He said he remembered the gunmetal grey one (origional b5 blue) and the green one. That or i'm still holding out that mike atkins has some info, but i'm not positive on that one. If i could just come up with the vin it would help but i guess that will have to wait.

OK, here's some individual pics of the Brighton Birds. I haven't seen this EW1 4bbl car since that day in 1983, though last I heard, it was still in the hands of the same owner. Dig those slot mags...

And here's one of the EV2 car on the end of the line, another 440 4bbl if I recall correctly. I believe this car is now in Scandinavia.

I don't seem to have an individual pic of the Limelight (sorta) 'bird on that day, but here it is a couple of years later, restored by my friend Tony to it's original Lemon Twist. This is a 6bbl car. I believe this car is still in the UK in a private collection, but I haven't seen it in 15 years.

...and lastly (for now) here's a 'bird with an interesting story. In the late 80's, I went to see the red 'bird (now blue - the Payson Crowell car) with a view to buy it. When I got to the owner's house, this black 'bird was in the garage, with the red 'bird on the drive behind it.

The black car was originally B5 and is another 6-bbl car. It was bought from the estate of a deceased Scottish Laird, who had a large collection of exotic cars. Mostly Ferraris, Aston Martins and such, but also a Boss 429 Mustang and this 'bird. The Laird didn't have a drivers licence, and would drive his toys around the castle grounds until he got bored, then park them up and move on to something else. The Boss 429 was parked in a barn, but the 'bird was found with a tree growing through it. All were sold at auction, most with very low mileage, as you might imagine.

The guy I visited still owns it...

Ah MAN !!! Adam.. Why didn't I know you when I was in London/Gatwick for some of my corporate training.. I was at Brighton in Nov. '99 and I remember that beachfront !!!! Man, it was nice there and I searched high and low for guys in the Mopar ranks over there.. I was there during one of the timetrail events they have there. Can't remember the name of the event, but it had some very nice and exotic race cars drag racing down on the beachfront street. I saw a big block Dart and I knew that sound as soon as I heard it.. It wasn't anything I heard over there before and it was, like, home.. It's nice to know if I get transferred over there I'll be in good Mopar company...

Cheers,
Troy

Well, I have not posted pictures on this thread in a while, so here are ten pictures from the 1982 Chrysler Car Club Conference meet in St Louis.

Allen, cool pics! I didn't make it to the St. Louis show and went to the Chelsea event instead that year. I've seen a lot of pics of Dave Jones Hemi Daytona racing the yellow Bird over the years but never from the angle to where you could see the cars from the rear as they went down the track! Thanks for posting all them cool pics and keep em coming!
