Go to a selfservice junkyard and look at late model V8 cars.
Cooling fans are sized for the heat load produced by the engine. A fan from a little 4 banger not even. Very few engines installed today have fans that move enough air to cool a 440 in a small frontal area car. We have a 440 Dart with a 26 inch radiator. A clutch fan 18" barely cools. I have tried several electric fans none of them would keep it cool.

I have the HHR fan in my 70 Challenger 440/727 works like a champ! It was only $50 at RockAuto.com! I too used an aluminum rad.

That's why I went with the MB fan. Some of those cars have 7 different coolers in front of the fan. It needs to move a lot of air to overcome that much heat.

Do you have some details about these fans? What did they come off of, and do you have any pics? Also how deep are they?
