I've got a coolant leak coming from the timing chain cover on my '02 Ram. While I'm in there I may replace the timing chain. Wondering if I can put a double roller timing chain in there from an LA motor? They seem to be pretty cheap, so I'm hoping the Magnum chains are the same.

Thanks!
Paul

LA chain will work. I've used the Cloyes 3103 on my 94 5.2 Magnum and put a Comp 2103 on my 99 5.9.

I would use a (Mopar)chain tensioner with it

Magnum engine should already have the tensioner from the factory. But you may want to look it over and consider a new one.

Not all do and if your running a double roller I'd not bother, just extra friction.

A tip from the guys at KRC.

I used the cloyes on both my 2000 engines, fit just fine. Early Magnums came with the chain tensioner, later ones did not. My engine builder recommended using it on the later engines as well so I put one on.

the tesioner was from the v-6 magnums and found there way over to the 318 magnums along with the older LA pre mag engines

my 93 5.2 mag did not have it

I think the early ones did not and the later ones got it after it cought on with the v-6

SB mopars are hard on the chains,no place to skimp on $ IMHO

seen some of the tensioner fail also with the shoes comeing off..not good

but it is a good upgrade for stock type chains

You'll notice a big difference in the timing between the timing chain tensioner and not. With one, the timing stays steady, as viewed with a timing light.
