well i pulled the diff today and sure enough it broke a bunch of ring gear teeth and the pinioun does not look much better. I know you fast guys have broken 8-3/4 gears before. so dont know if you want to see another pic. but i will post one anyway.lol so going by the pic what caused it to brake? to much power, rear not set up right or did both cause it to brake? well at least i can say my car has to much power lol

What always happened to mine is I would break about 1/2 of a tooth off the ring gear. Then another 1/2 and again. Finally, the pinion would land on a spot on the ring gear where two 1/2 teeth were broken, then it would "shell" the ring gear at that spot. The damage was always done at the starting line. It finally pick up a broken tooth , between the ring and pinion when I lifted at the finnish line and momentarally lock up the rear end. Lucky for me it broke something else and turn it loose. Locked up rear end at 100 mph is not something I ever want to do again.
It was at that point that I put a Dana rear end in.

well mine did not give me any notice untill it let go. well it did slow down just a very little from the last pass. i wonder if that is when it frist started to break on me? there is 2 more spots on my ring grear that have 4-5 teeth gone and yes i am really gad that it did not let go at 125.00 mph.that could of been very bad. mine let go before the 60 foot mark. man the last pass felt like it was going to be the best pass of the night untill it went boom. now i get to figure out if i am going to put my new gears in the 8-3/4 and try it again. or just drive it around on the street untill i can get the money saved up to build a dana glad to hear you made out ok with your car. i think my car should weigh 3400-3500 with me in it.

Minor detail. Slap some Mighty Putty on there, and it will all buff out. Green to White technology.

I'm not totally sure, but the Blue gear lube looks like Red-Line Shock Proof gear oil?

I could only get 50-100 runs on a set of street gears, had to pull axles and check ring gear teeth a couple times a year. That will get you by while you save for a Dana, I put a pro gear in my 8-3/4 in 1997 and it's holding up fine. Pro gears are hard to find nowadays, tho.

I've broken plenty of 8.75 ring gears but since I went to the aluminum carrier and the pro gear I haven't broken anything. I'm going to put a new pro gear in before the new stroker engine goes in though.

They say once you brake a gear set to replace the center section as they have gone weak and are starting to twist.
Seems many go out and brake another set or two right away and replacing the center section fixes that.

Strange still sells them, I just ordered one but they only come in one ratio, 4.86:1

If you are talking to me? yes that was how it was set up when i bought the car. I never thought this car would brake the gears like it it. because my old 65 plymouth had a 742 case and 4.30 gears and i dont know how many passes it had on it. the 65 weighed 3500 pounds with me in it and would run 1.41 60 ft running 10.50 at 127-128. it never broke on me. but i did end up putting a dana under the 65 just in csae something like this happend. but the 8-3/4 gear set up is still kicking in my buddys 64 dodge.

well i have all winter to decided what i am going to do. eather build a dana out of a truck or pm doctor diff and see what it would cost him to build me a rearend set up. I have a brand new set of 4.10 gears in the box i can use or a used but like new set of 4.56 gears i could use. I am thinking about putting the 4.10 or some 4.30 in it and play with it on the street untill i get the money saved up to build a dana for it.
