Hi guys, hope all is well.
I have a question for you all. What grit of sanding scrolls do you use for shaping a port and what do you use for the final "lets make it look pretty."
I have been porting heads for many years with some good results but when I'm done they just don't have that professional look like the pros get. What should I use???

The problem with porting, is people WANT to see " pretty" when its done. Its usually finished much nicer than it has to be, because people want it all glamorous. Typically you have to spend an extra hour beautifying the porting jobs. Whats funny, and you see it all over the internet is when people say: " that porting looks killer dude" and so forth. How can someone look at a picture of a port job and know that its done right? How does it flow, where does it flow, hows the low numbers, whats the velocity and so forth. Its just like the flow numbers game. People WANT big flow numbers. It sells product. People WANT pretty port jobs, its makes the customer happy. Again , there is a lot more to it than smooth looking ports. My

That is some good advice, thank you very much.
These are some small block Edelbrock heads that I'm doing for a fried but I also have a set of aluminum Hemi heads that I will be doing for myself. I'm just trying to bring them up to the next level.
Anybody else??

Are you displaying the heads with intake and exhuast manifolds off with mirrors and lights ???

As I said before, I'm just trying to get to the "next level" in my porting jobs. I have flowed many of my heads after I have messed with them and have come up with some good numbers so I know I,m on the right track.
I wonder if people use a flapper wheel, a Scott Bright type wheel or ????
....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

Do you use a larger diameter roll....1/2" or do you like the smaller rolls like the 1/4" ones??

I use a few different diameters so they fit the radius
at different points... 120 on the intakes and I go a
bit smoother on the exhaust

That's basically what I do, too. If an 80 gets the desired results w/ the exhaust, I don't bother going to the 120, though.
My rolls are a mix of straight & tapered 3/8" and 1/2", depending on the grit and contours I'm working with.
