I am putting the spare tire back in my T/A. I have noticed a couple of different ways in which the jack hook was over the spare, held by the nut, compressing it all together, and under the tire, holding it level. Whats correct? Also my car has the original rod, correct original spare tire, blue inflator bracket with the bottle still full with the original cap. Only thing that I am missing was the hold down nut that my 70 cuda donated. Problem is that when I try to tighten it all together, with the hook under the tire, the nut wants to get close to tight then start to scratch the rim before it compresses. With the hook on top it isn,t long enough to catch the rod. Am I doing something out of order or just missing something that should be obvious?

Does this help? Pic of a low mile survivor at the Nats a couple years ago.

If your car still has it, it is also shown on the jacking instruction decal on the decklid.

I feel like an idiot now! I forgot about the jack base. Thanks for the picture and help. I forgot about the decal Barry, but mine has been repainted and the decal isn't on it yet.

Maybe this will help.
Call-out "D" (hook) was relocated to this position on Challenger Hardtops some time in mid 1970. I wasn't able to make out the date on the print. I think it mainly affected the 71 Challenger Hardtops.
