Looks like a great project Bob...and congrats to the owner. I'm sure it will be perfect for him when you are done...and after all...thats what really matters. .....Scott...just wanted to thank you also for your digligence in the restoration of Mopars...it's great to see your concern..I'm sure it's in the best of hands.

One thing is for certain.....

The recent plummeting of value of these cars has had a unique and refreshing effect on the hobby in general. The black Suburbans with the tinted windows, driven by the guys with the suitcases full of cash trolling for VIN's are long gone.

Alas, many of these cars(especially the early B hemi cars-which are now in relative bargain territory) are no longer too precious to actually drive, or heaven forbid, race.

Sooner or later the doctor is gonna tell you you have "x" amount of time on this earth, if you dont drop over dead first, and preserving history of cars will be meaningless to you. Enjoy the car.

While it's nice to know and is good for internet fodder, the world doesn't necessarily need anymore tedious documentation of original survivors. There are countless originals that have been well documented over the years and just about all of what has needed to be determined regarding what is or isn't correct on these cars is now known.

Mike, I'm sorry but other than the larger more basic items I completely dissagree with you on that one, I've discovered and learned about new details with almost every survivor I have seen. To say "everything" has been documented already is simply not the case at all!

Scott,

Reread my post. "just about all" and "everything" are like oil and vinegar.

I stand by my comments.

Just to set the record straight, preservation of a survivor is not the same thing as a restoration. While I am sure Bob and his boys are more than capable of either. It just never hurts to do a little home work when presented with one of the few cars that will ever be able to attain that level of survivor, ever. To seek out the advice of people that have successfully been down that path before is something that most anyone would have to do as this process is seldom done as very few cars can meet the standards. There are 100+ restored 66 Hemi cars. This car is one of a hand full of 1966 Hemi cars that I have ever seen that it seems possibly could ware that survivor badge of honor. Along with the added value and notoriety you also end up with a car that would be much more usable than a concourse show poodle. Again to be perfectly clear the car in my opinion is worth more money as a survivor than a 100 point show car and it would take much less money to get there.

100% SURVIVOR STAUS would have been the best option in my eyes.
huge mistake restoring it.imo

It's a great car. Although my feelings are aligned closer to Scott's, I am glad this car will be thundering on the streets again real soon.

Well Mike, all due respect but it's simple, in the beginning you state how it is no longer necessary to look for further details, then you turn around and say "just about" like the last few details yet to be discovered don't matter? Seems like a direct conflict with the first part of your post?

In once sense I agree with you Mike, the learning curve isn't as steep as it once was because as a collective group the hobby has learned allot in recent years. However, we aren't quite done yet, the learning curve is still just that, an uphill curve. The curve is far from flat and I don't see an end comming anytime soon as long as there are new unrestored cars to study. The number of remaining shrinks every time one gets a restored, personally I feel everyone of them should be documented to the teeth before going under the knife for any type of work.

Heres one thing everyone should remember, Jim bought this car new,he paid for it, paid the taxes on it so therefore its his to do as he pleases. He doesnt owe it to anyone to document a damn thing if he choses not to, maybe he thinks that would be to much hassle and just wants it done so he can enjoy it the way he chooses!! Now im not against documenting things for the restoration purists for future references but some people who own old cars just think of them as that and want to drive them. Im sure its Jims baby but you dont keep a wild child like that in the crib!! Good luck with it Bob and keep the pics coming. Maybe Scott could come over and do some documenting of his own There is an original owner survivor 68 GTX here in my town that would make a nice car to check out also, plus the guy worked for Chrysler for 37 years and races a max wedge car so hes a good one just to chat with

416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out.

If I had been invited too before the tear down I just might have, I've done it before!

As far as other survivors out there, when it's affordable I will do just that! If the day ever comes that I can afford to spend all of my days flying around on my nickel to document others I'd do that as well.....Trouble is I haven't hit the lotto just yet.

*I hope you posters remarking about owners rights and making other comments about what he does with the car after the work is done aren't addressing me, if so you need to go back and read ALL of my posts COMPLETELY. I've never suggested anything that would invite such remarks.

And still the mindless bull shitz go on with useless arguements with no compromize of opinion till it ruins another great shared post. It's looks like this will go the way of the 440 Source post of past. Can't we all just respect each others opinion and move on,why does certain individuals continue to try to make it a post about themselves and their agenda and it becomes "hey look at me" and piss on the project. It's Jim's parade here, why rain on it?Some may think that it's their right to "grandstand" or be a attention hoe.Sorry for the rant, but some need to get a life.Let's try to have fun and enjoy.

It's amazing how a post about something THIS COOL can turn into so much from so many sides. A gentleman who has owned a cool rare piece of automotive history since it was new has given it over to another gentleman who's knowldge of and abilities with Hemi powered Mopars is up there with the best of them. He is documenting all of the teardown for those who requested it, but at the end of the day he will reassemble the car as requested by THE CUSTOMER. The owner obviously wants to enjoy the car once again, without the concerns everone else has attached to it like value or rarity. Thanks to the owner and BGR for letting us in on this awesome undertaking. I hope that the can stop enough so this thread stays alive so those of us who just want to see the car's progress over the next several months can enjoy it.

Hey Bob, I just looked and the 66 Hemi has pretty good HP factor. That car would make a good B/SA.

C/G with the Hemi set back and Hillborns sticking out of the hood/cowl and a Clutchflite. Maybe move the rear up a few inches too. An aluminum keg gas tank in the grill too.

I take back all those awfull things I said about class racers, your finally comming around to my way of thinking. We can build it like my old Ultra/Stocker-C/Altered 66 with a straight axle.Come down next weekend and we will start I have to go finish the roll bar in the Hemi Dart and back halve the Hemi Cuda.Don't tell Grant.

5 more weeks and I can't wait .Idle hands is the playground.
Jim is living his dream,I've been fortunate to have lived my dream all my life, now I'll "more" time to help other realize their dreams.
