Any motor combo that will produce 800 hp and swallow 300 hp of nitrous will do the trick. That gives you a little room, as it takes about 1000 hp to run 8.50s at 3100 lbs. With that goal, you can build in some reliability I would think. Maybe shoot for 900 hp on motor, so you only need 200 on the juice. That would be a 540 B1 motor with some porting. Lets see, B1Wes built that exact combo.
8..603 156 mph best, 2905 lbs 549, indy 572-13, alky

I'm curious what you guys are doing to run 8.50's and what the car weighs and type of suspension, tire etc. I'm 99% sure I'm going BB on spray, but nothing is together yet. The car should weigh around 3,100 on CalTrac's.
Man i don't have any combo's but i got to say THAT DART IS SWEEEEET

A 400+ CID small block with heads that flow 350CFM and a 200HP shot of nitrous in a 3200 lb car.
A 400+ CID small block with heads flowing over 400 CFM built on kill with a Liberty and clutch weighing 2800.
A 400+ CID small block with heads flowing over 400 CFM and a 100HP shot of Nitrous will doing it dragging another car behind it LOL.
Career best 8.02 @ 169 at 3050# and 10" tires small block power.

Ari, I got it back in March. It's been in storage since last month when I got it home. It wasn't Guppys car. I've heard about it, but never have seen it. Mine is leaf spring, his is a 4 link from what I'm told. Al and Fred, thanks for that Glass Man, thanks, but I don't like glass parts on street cars. Besides a hood anyways. Greg, thanks for that info. Did Wes ever run that car? Seems like he sold it right around the time I joined Moparts. racerx, thanks Leon, I'll take #3 lol. Anyone else? I know there's some more cars here that can do it.

my car is 3500lbs so my combo would be about 3 - 4 tenths faster 3500lbs 499 4.15 X 4.375 ross shelf flattop piston 440-1 heads and intake cnc ported by Scott Brown Solid Roller Scott brown 1050 dominator Leave on NOS big shot plate 73n 61f Turn on a fogger on top of that 32n 28f Progress the second one after .5 - .6 seconds
10 inch ATI converter t 400 Rossler trans 3.70 rear gears proparts headers w/ 4" Hooker maxflow
best pass on motor alone was 9.87 Best pass on nitrous 8.43 @ 160, i dial in the car to 8.50 with the progressive delaying the second one
I would love to have a 3100lb car !!!

All motor short shifting and on the brakes

Sweet...What did it run not short shifting and off the brakes? If I remember, this the car you were looking to run some 7.50 or 8.50 index races with. D.T. builds some big power.

Ari i have tuned the car on just the plate, i got it to run 9.0's at about 147 148. That was with 78n 70f and 20* timing. Prob could get it to run in the 8.90 8.80 range with say a 92 or so nitrous jet.
Now thinking about it, prob could go 8.50's with just the plate in a 3100lb car. When using a plate on the Indy intake, have to watch at the higher jets that the cycl dist is good. Even with mine ported there are still two cyl that can get a little hotter than the rest
