Hello,

I am looking at getting some replacement parts for my Dodges, both cars and trucks.

On the Rock Auto website as well as others they list parts as being either Service or Professional grade.

The professional grade parts are about 3x's the price. Is there really a difference, or is it like buying the extended warranty on brake parts and getting the same thing only for 3x's the price?

Thank you for your input.

There is definitely a difference. On ball joints it can mean the difference between using nylon bushings and steel, or the difference between foreign and US made. I use rockauto religiously and for chassis parts I only buy premium line stuff. You get what you pay for with chassis stuff. All of the lower and mid grade tie rod ends, for example, will be cast bodies while only the Moog, have I ever seen, are forged ends. Worth paying for, to me.

I've heard some horror stories about that el-cheapo "service grade" stuff. Basically good if you're slapping a car back together to sell and don't care if it's shot again in 10K miles.
