1973 Dodge Charger SE Brougham

Looking for the bulb that illuminates the “Fasten Seat Belt” sign in front of driver , on the dash in front of speedometer.
During restoration, was not replaced and cannot find.
Seat belt buzzer will not turn off when in gear and no one in passenger seat until I connect the passenger seat belt.
From a wiring diagram, I see that the bulb and buzzer are connected (makes sense). I would think that the light bulb must be in place for a correct circuit.
My questions are:
1. Am I correct on the need for the bulb in circuit.
2. What is the bulb part number and where can I obtain?

Hey Dave,
From what I can tell the bulb you are looking for is #1892. Don't know if that's what is making the buzzer stay on though. Good luck

that system was known for the type of trouble you are having. I'd vote it is probably not the bulb, but rather the sensor in the passenger seat. It seems to mistakenly be sensing pressure on the seat, where there is none. Maybe an adjustment?

I agree- check the seat sensor- look underneath the seat-find the connector- disconnect it- it should stop!

you could get that bulb OR the wedge kind one, depending if you got the metalic bayonet kind socket or the plastic one

except for 71s what everyone has got the bayonet kind, I got the conclusion those were fit kinda randomly. I got both kinds 50% of each on 6 chargers I have disasembled, true assemblied in Venezuela, but I don't think too much diff up there.

Main reason why the change to plastic socket and I think the one you could get is that one, wedge kind bulb ( 168 bulb as far I remember ) is because since 72s this function was switched on by ground signal ( 71s, ground was chassis constant, and switched on by positive via timer delay flasher ), so positive is constant. Any one of those signals can accidentally be grounded through the seatbelt chassis housing what accidentally can make contact with dash pad structure, being metallic so you can get a short OR a pegged on light and buzzer, depenidng on how its wired the chassis according on assembly plant.

About the rest... yes, I'm agreed on the seatbelt sensor being stuck in closed position OR some wire being grounded against some chassis section.

Bulb works together wit buzzer. They share same triggers

I went to a mechanic who worked on older cars. He eyeballed the socket and said it was a “194”. And yes – let there be illumination!
The buzzer still comes on and I must keep the passenger seat belt fastened. The mechanic gave me the bulb free but said for him to trouble shoot the seat belt system make not be worth my while. May have to take the buzzer out.

simply disconect the plug underneath the seat and you will be done!

then if you want to make to work the system back, get a replacement:

theorically there are 4 kinds... black end long, black end short, white end long, and white end short, everyone with diff aplications according with weight sensing, but anyone of them will really work

the diff color end is where the sitch is located, where the wires arrives

This system works pretty much basic and easy to fix
