I have a 66 model year 383 that is factory drilled for the driver side motor mount that attaches to the front of the block. Is this exactly what was used in the 383 A-body cars?

I also have the bracket.

I plan to sell it and want to make sure I advertise it correctly.

Thanks
Tom

I believe some of the earlier c-bodys took a very similar motor mount. which would have made those blocks drilled also. depending on what month your block was produced it could make it correct for a 67 big block dart or barracuda. thanks

They didn't put big blocks in A bodies in 1966 , but you knew that. that is the C body mount point as mentioned.

Every 383 before 1970 has those nubs and prior to 68 they were ALL drilled and tapped, only select blocks destined for A body usage were drilled and tapped and one other operation performed to the block. That block should not have had that extra operation so it's obviously not an A body specific block that will garner you extra $$$, assuming that is your thinking. this is of course assuming also it's not stamped as a 68 or 69 model year which is possible , but highly unlikely, given the shear volume of 383 cars built during that era.

Yes, since it was used in 66, it's not a "real" A-body 383. What I'm trying to determine is if it will mate/fit correctly in a A-body so long as the correct K-frame is used. Here's a pic of the bracket.

Thanks again...

The only difference in the block will be that the rear motormount boss on the drivers side will be shaved off for an A-Body.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

Yes it will work with the right K frame

Is this the extra operation performed to the block?
I wonder why they shaved the mount off. What did (or would have) it hit/rubbed?

Yes and it was done to clear the power steering box.

This is not the greatest picture but you can see the shaved mounting ear to the right of the dipstick.
