I'm not sure how this happened and am still trying to get it apart now. The ball joint didn't separate like I thought it did and looks like the upper control arm is no good now assuming they screw in.
Anyone had this happen before or have some experience with this?

Yes, they screw in and that's likely due to thread failure. The factory recommended fix when one can't be torqued to spec (REAL TIGHT) is to put three or four small welds around it to keep it in place.

Doesn't seem like this type of failure is reported often here. I would think a decent used replacement arm is easy to find for most mopars. Tack welding doesn't seem to poor solution, if the threads are not wallowed out, since the threads take hardly any real axial loading, and then the most loading then I would think would be at full extension when doing General Lee ramp jumps, the most significant loading would be under braking and cornering and that would be a shear load. Tack away.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Still, nice to see the fail-safe engineering!

I'm thinking just replace with tubulars. Might as well upgrade. I have the whole suspension apart and found different issues. The outer tie rod is ready to shear off. The brake pads are cracked. Just a few things wrong. The passenger side control arm is screwy too. Taking it apart today. Good thing I sold a car, this is costing me.
