Interesting how the fenders are bolted on. Is that factory?

I've got pictures of a blue engined 1971 340 Challenger survivor engine compartment too. It's a loaded A/C car. Log ex manifolds and California emissons too. Will post pics later.

I thought it only was the california cars that had the ECS system? Anyway,i have noticed a"ECS-part" on my california car, if you look at the top of the firewall on the passenger side, anyone know what that is? And how does it work?

I believe that's the NOX valve. I think they used that style in 71-72. In 73, the NOX valve delayed the signal to the distributors vacume advance under part throttle. Don't know how that style valve worked in 71.
The 1971 E-body 340, 383HP, 440-6, and Hemi cars with California emissions don't get that NOX box in the cowl.
I'd bet that car in the picture was not originally a 340 car. Unless someone cut the cowl and added it thinking it was correct.
I you sure? know a california 71 340-cuda,its made just after my car in 9/26/1970 also (N95) car.that car also got the same valve on the cowl..(see picture) dont think its added.(The car in the picture is featured in last month mopar action magazine,Yellow 1971 340-cuda)

Correction. I take that back. Should have looked at my pictures first. But my before picture just got moved around on my web server. The 71 Challenger 340 auto N95 DOES have the unit on the cowl. I'm sorry I don't have the survivor engine compartment pictures from 10+ years earlier of the 71 Challenger 340 pictured below. I think Scott Smith has copies I sent him. My 71 Challenger R/T 383 auto does not have it. It a SPD Feb 14, 1971. I'll have to look at some more reference pics I have.

Not my 1971 Challenger 340 vert.
I have a 1971 Challenger 383 R/T hardtop.
