I was told the longer the better, when I was going to get them. Something about they work better with small tired cars, I don't know if this applies too you.

Do you mount them the normal way? I heard that with caltracs you mount the bars to the body

Someone I new at the track running 10.5 tires had problems this way. His Nova ran mid 8s and left pretty soft but carried the tires a good ways out. He tried conventional wheelie bars and it would light the tires as soon as the bars touched the ground so he ended up going without and controlled it with his MSD box. What is done differently with yours or what was wrong with his? Just curious as I see the reasoning behind the AJE style of bar and in my head I can see why the conventional wouldn't want to work as well with cal tracs. Thanks for any info.

i just dont see conventional bars working, as soon as you hit the bars the tires unload.
here are a couple links to guys that claim to have a solution.

Do you know Jake (jakes automotive) ? give him a call. They used wheelie bars on Len Adamicks blue 63 max wedge. Not sure how it worked out. There are pics of it here http://www.awracecars.com/gallery9.html

It was Mike white several years ago when he was running that Orange Nova, back when the MAKO stuff first started. I say he controlled it with his MSD box that may not have been the case might have been nitrous timer whatever. I know the wheelie bars came back off pretty quick. I know it was picking the wheels up and trying to keep them up as the nitrous came in.

I also have a set of those, bent into a pretzel. On a positive note they did plant the tire, but it just drove the car up and bent the bars. After another wheelie, and smashing up the Charlies pan again, I tried a Comp Eng. 60 inch tube type bar, cut down to 55 inches(to fit in the trailer). Initially they would unload the tire, but as I kept raising the bars it started coming around. The wheelie bar wheels are over 14 inches off the ground, because the rearend wants to rotate so much, and the car needs to pitch rotate to work with caltracs and the long front end travel also needed for the caltracs to work,,, at least in my experiance. I was going to cut into the spare tire well more and get the bars higher, when the season ended. Mid to high 1.30's 60 ft, and 8.70's.

I run a standard 48" S&W wheelie bars on my car with Caltrac's with no problems. You just need to set them high so they don't unload the back tire. Many stock eliminator cars run bars with Caltracs. NHRA does not allow wheelie bars to be attached to the body in stock eliminator or SS. That is why John no longer runs the AJE bars. I've been 1.28 60' with a 10.5 tire with a 6AL box. 1.41 on the back tires... My car leaves straight as a string. It just took a little bit of testing to get it where everything works well.
