A friend of mine had a sand rail with a wankel in it...extremely fast. LOUD too!

Do it man. Engine swapping is just good old fashioned hot rodding.

The fate of your eternal soul does not depend on a spotless "mopar card."

The only rotary car ive ever ridden in was a non turbo 12a in an rx7 (stick car) Me and a buddy went to arizona to pick it up all he wanted was the motor for his bug...we beat the crap out of it the whole way back (dirt roads, jumping it, drifting, speeding, 7300?rpm shifts) It ran like a champ the whole way and it still does. Do what you please, afterall its your car

Like them or not you have to admit they can go fast, there's a guy local who "stacked" the rotors on one making a 2 rotor motor into a 3. They sound like a two stroke and have really low fuel consumption. He also works on Toyota Supra turbo engines, the money these guys have in the motors is unbelievable They come from far and wide to have him modify / build the engines.
For his own car he is building a turbo'd 5.0, that says something to me .

Rotary engines are cool.Better in a light car with a turbo of course.
A local guy has an old corolla/corona?(rwd)witha turbo rotary and it hauls a**!
Look up rotoryota ? I believe on you tube.
Would be way cool in an old dodge colt but a duster is kinda heavy.

The worlds fastest rotary is a low six second pass so they still have a long way to go, and they dont last long till they go bang especially when the make a lot of power. But they sound great and the short wheelbase cars they are generaly in make them entertaining to watch.

Back when I was a smog tech in San Diego, I hated them. There was a Mazda specialty shop a block away and they brought over all their cars for me to pass. They aren't easy to get to run the numbers!!!
They are a cool powerplant though, and one guy had swapped one into a Subaru Brat. That thing was a sleeper handfull!

There is a guy here that puts them in his rock crawler trucks. Makes a ton of noise and doesn't hardly move with the super low gearing. Seems to work well though, keeps the buggy light and compact.

I hate rotaries! Been a Mazda tech for 15 years now and still get one a day pushed in with a flooded engine. Especially the new RX8's. Damn things have an 80month, 100,000 mile engine warranty now, LOL I'll be doing engines in them until 2017 under warranty. Thankfully they have discontinued them. Anyways, the older 13b's are probably the best of the bunch and can make some serious power. I would stick to keeping them in a light weight car though, as they aren't known for torque. And yes, they can be stacked, I've seen 4 rotor engines and the 787 GTP car that won LeMan's back in the day had one.

Technically interesting, appealing simplicity of concept.
But not much torque, and their Achilles' heel is the rotor seals. Had a '79 RX7 and honestly the gearbox was the best part of the car. The car wasn't anything near fast, but it could sure kill mosquitos. Drank gas like a big-block. Didn't care that much for the sound. There was one that used to show up at Sears Point with a reputation for running in the 9s IIRC, but it broke every time I saw it. My opinion (which with $2.00 will buy a good cup of coffee), is that they're better suited to road-racing than anything else.

They SUCK! I hate them at the track. They are the most obnoxious noise makers out there.

First time I saw one was maybe 10 years ago; actually I heard it first, and asked myself ...."what the h**l is THAT noise....???" Sounded like a mutant chain saw on steroids. It was a little white Datsun/Mazda (I don't know ricers) with Porto Rico license plates. It made one pass; pulled the wheels about a foot off the ground, bogged, and then took off like they lited a solid fuel rocket booster. They got thrown out cuz they were wwaaayyy too fast for how the car was built at the time.

Being a no, low torque engine, Dart/Duster body might be a little too much............Do a Colt instead, it would be fun I'm sure.

Personally as a racer who's at the track almost every week they are very annoying. I think NHRA mandated they use mufflers but most don't. I think the general opinion of them would be more favorable if the owners would do something about the noise. Constant ear piercing revving in the pits is just uncalled for. When I say they suck, what I really mean is they way the owners have no concern of who around and where they are when they do that crap. Park'm out in the weeds or put mufflers on them

Now the fact that they are racers going fast and supporting the sport and the tracks. I'm all in favor of that. I don't care if you're riding a 4 wheelers, sno mobiles or what ever. If you're at the track and paid to get in you have the right to go down the track. Just don't wreck our sport because of noise
