Would a 6 speed automatic trans like the TCI 6X work good behind a turbo car making 2000 hp?
I figure the tighter shifts would keep the rpms up to keep the turbos at max spool.

The turbo would have to be HUGE not to be able to keep spool on a shift. Turbo's love load. Load=heat=boost...

Unless you're talking about trying to put some gigantic turbo on a motor that won't spool until 6000 RPM, and plan on using it with a 3000 stall converter, I can't see how it would possibly work (or be needed).

A. 2000 hp would eliminate the transmission on the first pass. B. Like was stated your logic is flawed. Turbos are not linked to rpms like Prochargers or roots type blowers are. Once they get spooled they tend to stay spooled.

Well I guess I will just stick to a 727 then with a Gear Venders. I might go with a Lenco Drive.

Lenco Drives are heavy...

I have about 1400hp 500" 106 mm turbo infront of a 727 and it actually builds boost as it shifts... Oce you get into the boost, it will climb until the gate opens!

a 727 will not live at that HP level.
for a 3 speed T-400 ,
2 speed p/glide
in any form or HP level both are much less costly than a Lenco drive by 50%

Joe at Tranzact will beg to differ on that one. He runs a 727 behind a Pro-mod.(3000hp)He said it lasted him 7 seasons and no breakage. So I think a 727 can live behind 2000hp easily.

I think he meant, a normal 727 on a normal man's budget won't last.

If it's got every trick piece in the world to do it maybe... but it wouldn't be cheap...

I don't want to say "what" in response but that's very hard to believe but with enough cash anything is possible I would guess everything inside has been replaced with one off items not normally available elsewhere. If true then the price tag must be astronomical. Three times tghat of a P/G or T-400.

Well since I will be cutting the car all up for the twin turbo motor, I might as well cut out the tunnel. I think having a 5 speed Lencodrive would rock. Not sure if they are streetable though.

Right now I have about 1500 in my 727. The only thing I would need to upgrade to is billet input/out shafts.

That's one of the reasons I will never own another Mopar. The next car I build will be a 67 Chevelle.

Fred,

In your opinion, what is the single part that sets the 727 from a glide or t-400? Is it simply the sprag?

The two trans just work different. If a t-400 rolls the sprag, it won't overspeed the drum and become a potential bomb.

Joe makes some trick stuff for a 727, but it still won't live in front of 3000hp. And if he was making 3000hp, he would be able to qualify for NHRA Pro-Mod.

Monte just provided the techical explanation.
I have seen more than enough 727's come thru the floors. It's the purist that try to make it servicable on a budget that see mos tof the damages. I think Duster Dave used John Cope's top of the line 727 which I believe has a safe limit of 1500 HP.It cost as much if not more than a P/G capable of dealing with 2500 HP.

I have the baddest of the bad from cope as well....Im a turbo guy and im going to try it at around 2000hp. I was hoping that since its a radial car and I cant leave as hard as some of the big tire cars do that it will be easier to help it stay together

Radial cars with big HP are HARDER on parts than slicks.....You run radials, so you know they are only fast when you dead hook them. You can slip a slick and still go down, but not a drag radial.

Chad's car has the best of the best for parts, but it twists 40 spline axles, breaks planetaries, bends housings, twists the splines in Strange billet yokes and is just generally HARD on parts. High HP drag radial cars are just rough on parts. That said, I would NOT have a 727 in one.
