Stock rearend length is fine and use a 6.5BS wheel..

I've seen guys use the slightly narrower A-body rear end, with redrilled axle bolt pattern, to get a deeper wheel offset with aftermarket wheels.

You'd also have to move the spring perches.

When I did mine, I had my truck dana cut down to a-body length as I was able to use some used moser axles and got them cheap. I ran 15x10 wheels with around 6" of backspacing. I can;t remember the exact numbers as I lost it all with my old computer.

You can narrow by .5" to 1" and run a 6.5" bs 12" wheel - here's an article showing it done on a '70 Bee. They were using a Dana.

theres a host of problems to be thought out before you just go a head and tub. will you be shortening the axle and housing? are you going to relocate the springs? intended tire width and height. my roadrunner is shortened 3" on each side so i could run a 15" 'street' tire. but i knew what size tire i wanted first and worked the amount of shortening and tub size around that.

We did a 69 Coronet cutting a C body housing to -3" of B body lenth. Moser axles and relocated springs. Turns out the same as A body but this is what I had and wanted. Did not mini tub yet and run 10" wheel with 3.5" backspace in stock wheel wells tons of clearance. Can run 12" with 5.5 back space if I cut for tubs but may not as I like this setup on street. Did subframe connectors same time and with stock fuel tank and springs closer new exhaust and shocks with less angle. Ton of work, pain in the a but love it.

that sounds pretty sweet! i wish i had known about frame connectors at the time but that was 25 years ago.
