Folks,

Installed a Holley electric fuel pump in my 440, when I remove the mechanical pump, can I just block it off or is there some inner part in the block I gotta remove too?

Thanks, BAM

You'll want to get the fuel pump pushrod too. (although I suppose it could just rest there in peace forever and cause no problem...)

Unscrew the pipe plug under the fuel pump and let the rod drop out. If it bounces up and hits the eccentric on the cam it could fly off at a pretty good velocity and splinter and put junk in your engine. Why take a chance. Take a minute or two to drop it out.

With the quality of the replacement fuel pump rods, take it out and sell it to someone who can use it!!

I'd leave rod in there just in case the elec pump craps on you away from home and a mechanical pump is your temp option for whatever reason.

Cudajon,

Not familiar with the "pipe plug" can you give more detail?

Thanks, BAM

I'd pull the pipe plug (& they come loose better w jerking hard on the wrench rather than a steady pull on ones that are tight) & take out the rod & check for scalloped wear (std length is 3&1/4") & if you got it out I'm assuming it is not mushroomed badly. I'd want to know everythings' condition & go from there

On the 440 block there is a screwin plug below the fuel pump that allows the fuel pump rod to be removed/replaced/checked. It tales an allen socket (in most cases, I've see 1/2" square also) to remove it. Make sure you use a pipe seal (I like Locktite 565) when you replace it. Chances r if you leave it in there nothing will ever happen, but I never trust luck.

Another vote to just leave , it's not hurting anything and if you decide to switch back you know where it is .
