Along with my other issues I'm haveing a problem with my drum brakes, heres what its doing.

I installed new shoes & re-packed the bearings, now the DS wants to drag if i set the adj. up to normal, the only way to not have it drag is back it off almost all the way, but then my peddle is low, its driving me nuts, the PS is adj. up & is fine, I was told it could be the brake line, so i ordered new ones from O'Reillys (brakebest), went to install it, but it doesn't have the allignment "notch" so i took them back, but i was able to blow through the one on the car, it didn't seem like it was bad, so i re-installed it & said F*-IT!!

It never fails, you install new crap to up-date the old & yet the new stuff gives you fits & doesn't work right , i should've just left the old "hard" shoes on there, THEY didn't drag .

What could it be

Did you machine the drums too. Shoes may hang up on the inner ridge if drum was not machined-turned.

No, i didn't machine them, but i'm thinking at this point i might as well get new drums & brake lines from Bendix.

There could be several issues here, especially if you did not turn the drums.

First, make absolutely sure you have the shoes on the correct side, I.E. a primary and a secondary on each wheel

Second, if the drums are NOT turned, they can be worn uneven, say, with a "dish" in the middle, and certainly with a ridge on the outside and inside.

Third, drums that are worn (larger diameter) or turned out too far, will be "too big" for the shoes.

Both these cause the shoes to not fit the drums properly. In the case of the inside/ outside ridges, only the outsides of the shoe touches, causing glazing on these areas, with little work being done by the middle of the shoe

In the case of the drum being either worn or turned too large diamter, the shoes only hit in the middle of the shoe, and again, makes poor contact.

When you rebuild drum brakes, you really should take a hard look at the cylinders, too. This is because now suddenly they are "favoring" a different part of the cylinder bore, and may start to leak due to debri and rust buildup.

I re-built both wheel cylinders, they were leaking past the cups when i took the "outer" boots off, funny thing is, the brakes seem to work better when the cylinders were leaking .

Now i was told the "big" shoe goes in the back, is this currect?
