SOOOOO, I got an ATI balancer on my 528 Hemi & everything looks fine---until I installed the crank pulley & water pump. Now the pulleys don't line up. I tried a 1/4in spacer between the block & pump housing but it still doesn't line up. ATI tells me to call MARCH & MARCH tells me to call ATI. I'm thinking 2 sets of spacers may be necessary & if necessary, milling them to come up with the right sized spacer. Anyone have any other ideas?

I had the same problem when I went to a march pulley setup. They make two different crank pulleys. The one they sent me initially was the wrong one. Call em back, you need the other one. I'm running a Fluidamper, ask about that see if that wakes em up.

What pulleys do you have and what does the face of the ATI look like , flat or recessed ?

First, I have no experience with a Hemi fitment.

Mancini sells the parts to correct the alignment on wedges. ATI makes 2 ring and 3 ring balancers presumably for Hemis and wedges. I assume you have the 3 ring (as I do) screwing up the alignment. The 3 ring is the better balancer according to ATI. The difference amounts to about 5/8", correct?

If you can't get resolution from March, PM me and I'll give you a list of parts--IIRC. The parts are about $90.

Someone here may offer a better solution...

There are lots of different ATI dampers so it isn't possible to give a precise answer. But basically you'll need to find a shorter lower pulley and/or space out the top pulley. March makes shorter lower pulleys and so does DMI.

I use a 3 ring on my wedge. The shorter crank pulley I use is a Moroso underdrive, but it's actually a tad bit too short and I had to put around a 1/8" shim behind it.

It's a single groove pulley, as is the water pump. The outer "lip" of the water pump pulley lines up with the "lip" of the crank pulley that;s nearest the engine (aka engine side "lip".). My concern spacing just the pulley out is that it may exert too much leverage on the water pump shaft/bushing leading to premature wear. That's why I was thinking I'd have to resort to spacing out the pump housing. BUt the responses Do help so far. Thanks!

Are they hemi pulleys or wedge pulleys or a combination of the 2 ?

Then change the crank pulley and be done with it. All you need is the DMI pulley, a 2" crank bolt (you should already have this if you're using a 3 ring balancer), (6) 5/16" X 1-3/4 hex head bolts, and a shorter belt. I'm running the single groove set up, too. I've done all the leg work on this parts-wise, but I can't promise the parts will work unless you verify the difference is 5/8". If it is you'll be able to use the new pulley right out of the box.

What is the difference, John? Bolt pattern?

No depths , mid 68 - 71 hemis used a different top and bottom pulley than 66-mid 68 , the 66-mid 68 use a wedge water pump pulley and an even shallower crank pulley.

The crank pulley is a 440 unit from "440 source". The water pump pulley, I was told is a 440 unit also so I'm thinking it should all line up.

The balancer plays a huge role in this, if the hub is thicker than a stock wedge balancer there is no way you are going to get it to line up without a bunch of work. I'd be looking at a different lower pulley if you are set on your waterpump pulley. One thing you need to think about also is clearance to your radiator if you space out the waterpump.

I run ATI balancers on all of my big motors. Try a stock street hemi crank pulley, or a 69/older small block crank pulley. If you run the small block pulley you'll need a narrow spacer. Mancini sells the spacers, or rob one off of a old bigblock industrial engine.

But I won't need the spacer if I use the Hemi Pulley? What's the part no.?

No spacer required with the hemi pulley. Now the part number for the pulley, good guess. The hemi pulley that is on my GTX came off of my 68 hemi.

Fan-to-radiator clearance is why I did all the legwork on my fitment. Early B's are notorious for lack of clearance, then add a 3 core and the Jag fan clutch and it gets even tighter.
