Just got my 360 torn down. Looks like some rather severe scores in the cylinders. I noticed some minor scoring on the bearings as well. This is the first bottom end I've done. Obviously I'm replacing the bearings and having the cylinders bored.

Since I'm rebuilding it anyway, could someone suggest a piston/ring combo that'll help me on my way to around 300 HP? Looks like the bone stock mid 70s 360 only made around 155 HP. I don't mind spending the money, since it'll come a step at a time. I realize the top end makes more or a difference than the bottom end, I'll get to that as money allows.

you would want to select the octane your going to run (pump gas I'm assuming)along w a stock cam? I'd select one of KB's hypereutectic pistons that'll give you a CR of ~ 9.5:1 along with some regular garden variety single moly rings (low tension/file fit not needed or wanted in your case)

I've always run Premium pump gas anyway, in everything I own. I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake coupled with a 1406 600 cfm carb. I'm thinking about the Mopar cam with 260/268 duration and .430/.450 lift. I'll figure out what heads I'm going with after I do a bit more research on different ones.

Also check the price/dimentions of speed pro 1166 and H405cp pistons. I assumed you were going to rebuild the OE open chambered heads. If going aftermarket I'd for sure step up to magnums (closed chambers) & get .040" quench. It'd let you run a higher CR on the exact same octane & have an maximum efficient long block w nothing left on the table

Hopefully you take your crankshaft in to have checked and resurfaced too.

dump the mopar cam. get a comp XE268, and some KB107's set up at 0 deck....

will work fine on pump premium with stock LA heads (will net ~9.5:1 compression) or edelbrocks, or magnum heads (~10.6:1 compression, but tight quench)

although with this setup, you'll be closer to 350-360HP than 300....

stock replacement pistons, a comp XE256 or XE262 (or comparable lunati voodoo), and headers will get you past your 300HP goal on 87 octane.....

Hughes web sight might be a good starting place for you. Lots of combo's to look at.
