I have a '93 Chrysler New Yorker with 3.3 V6 engine. The transmission shift lever is hard to move through the gear positions and today it wouldn't back up when I put it into reverse. I checked the fluid and it was a little low so I topped it off with no improvement. My question is this: is this type of transmission computer controlled and would it be really expensive to have rebuilt if need be. I would like to use this as a winter car to save my two '67 Furys from the elements. Thank you for any info here.

Those vehicles have been know to have the gear shift cables seize up and actually bend up under the steering column.
Or, the shaft going thru the case into the valve body could be seizing as well. Battery acids do wonders on those!
The last thing is the one you don't want to hear......INTERNAL.

Thanks for the info. It it a difficult task to replace the shift control cable or it it possible to free up the existing one? I'll check it out Thanks again.
