Has anyone ever seen an early (Sept 69) 70 6-pack b-body car that came with a wide lip air cleaner lid, or did all 70 cars come with the regular lid with no lip?

Not a very good picture but here's a '69 motor trend road test of '70 6bbl RR.

Notice it has the wrong base? The shield base should not be on an air grabber car

Base is correct for a '70 N95 - N96 - N97 car.

My super bee doesn't have a fresh air hood, so I know it should have the shielded base. The wide lip comes pretty close to the top of the shield, so I figured it probably didn't originally come with the car. Maybe I can find somebody that has the one I need and is looking for a 69 1/2 lid. I guess this one could have come on a 340-6 car too. Thanks for the help.

Never thought about that.

I seen this on the F8 green hemi Coronet R/T - it pretty much ruined the air seal - always thought it was incorrect

Would this base be on all 70 B bodies? Like a 70 Charger built on 2/1970 for example?

If I knew retirement was this great, I would have done it first!

No, as Dan has (sorta) said; cars WITHOUT the N95/N97 california emissions/noise reduction options have the open base. My '70 440-6 car has the open base

but the Charger would have the "shield" with no fresh air OPTION available

Ok well looks like you guys may disagree-the base that came with the car does not have a shield so I can only assume it's right until I learn further. SOrry, I'm new!

Oops, yes, of course; I was speaking of '70 N96 cars and Chargers have no N96 option. Thanks for the clarification. What I should have said is that '70 N96 B bodys have the "non-shield" base unless it has the california stuff (n95/n97) that you mentioned above.

Would it just be Plymouths with the shield because of the hood opening being right at the air cleaner? Seems like it wouldn't be necessary on the Coronets.
