Are mopar cars the only ones that have the exhaust manifold bolts go through the water jacket?

Why do you want to know ? Do you want to rant about something? In the big picture does it really matter ?

It is what it is, nothing is going to change the way the parts were made decades ago.

Personally I can't think of any other engine that had wet exhaust bolt holes, but I have not worked on every engine ever built.

I think that I may be leaking a little coolent from an exhaust bolt, because I have a drip pan under my car and found a couple of drops of coolent below the exhaust. The car is a 71 Super Bee with a 383. I was not planning on starting a rant; was just looking for some answers.

yes all BB mopar exhast studs are wet and need some sealer on them

SB mopar has just the 2 end studs in water

dont think ferd and chebbys are that way,been a while since I worked on any of those to remember

I am sure out of all engines made more of them do have wet exhast bolts/studs

maybe that helps

Maybe if you stated this in your original question you wouldn't have gotten a blank page ? It's hard to answer a question when the right question is not asked. your original question made little sense as it appears that you know that mopars have wet exhaust bolt holes, why would it matter if others makes do?

Do you have headers or exh manifolds? Either way with factory iron heads I like to use as many studs as possible because of the wet bolt holes.

Here's the funny part , aftermarket heads don't have wet holes , but stage 6 heads do.

I have exhaust manifolds with iron heads. If I have a problem that I can't solve, I guess that I'll get a set of aluminum heads. So if I get aluminum heads, they won't have wet holes. Right?

Had same problem, buy some of the rad stop leak that are like 6 to a package and are quarter shaped and use half

Why spend all that money changing heads when all you have to do is put studs back in with sealer ?

I had the exhaust manifold changed on the driver side, because it was cracked. After it was changed, one of the bolts was leaking bad. I noticed that the treads were stripped. So the mechanic put in the next size bolt that was metric.

were the treads in the head stripped or the stud? I use sealer on every one of the studs it helps stop the leaks and makes it easier to remove them if needed.

Well take it back and tell him to fix it the RIGHT way, if he screwed it up then he should fix it.

The problem with the way he fixed it...or attemped to is that once you pull that stud out the threads are going to be all dorked up and you might not get it back in tight enough for a seal. I'd try and use a tap and clean up the threads, then go up once size if needed. The correct way would be to drill it out and re-thread it.

remove it and hope you dont have to go bigger than whats needed for a HELI-COIL insert

then step up to next size stud if need be..

no need to remove metal from the head/flange area if you dont have too,IMHO

make sure it stays straight when drill/taping

HELI_COIL Incerts are your friend I so far in 32 years of working on cars have not had one let me down.
My dad used them on aircraft due to lots of disimalar metals. Lots of times things would be welded together. and rip the threads out when taking then apart
